The BSEd program is a four-year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English. It is an excellent preparation for the English Language Arts teachers and for advancement in any field in which communication skills are important to ensure that knowledge is well transferred to students while addressing the local needs of English language learning. Courses offered for the major emphasizes critical and creative thinking, effective communication, innovation in language teaching and assessment, passion for lifelong learning and teaching, leadership and organizational skills, personal and professional ethics as teachers, resilience and agility, and national and global responsiveness.
Objectives of the Program
Students in the program will:
understand deeply the English language they will teach in the future;
become familiar with the Principles and Standards for English language;
apply national and state standards for English education to develop content-appropriate lessons;
use and compare different assessment techniques;
develop a disposition favoring continual gathering and use of information about their students' English understandings;
appropriately and responsibly use technology to enhance opportunities for students' English language intelligence;
understand the development of English language through numerous and varied experiences related to the cultural, historical, and scientific evolution of mathematics;
learn to use the English language and pedagogy knowledge flexibly in authentic situations through field experiences with secondary students under the supervision of highly qualified, experienced teachers and university supervisors.
