Flexible Learning Mode of Teaching
In the middle of March, 2020, classes in all levels were suspended due to the serious spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. All schools, colleges, and universities, including PUP, faced various challenges regarding the shifting to different modes of instruction from the traditional face-to-face method of teaching. The Master of Science in Economics, in line with and in support of the University’s decision to shift to online and modular learning, adopted and adapted to the new teaching environment.
To prepare the faculty members for the use of video conferencing platforms, the MS Economics program conducted online training on MS Teams and EDMODO. Dr. Ricardo Dizon conducted an online training on the use of EDMODO last June 7, 2020.
Free Microsoft (MS) Teams 365 A1 Plus for faculty and Microsoft MS Teams 365 A1 Plus for students is used as platform for course management and administration in the program. Faculty members use this platform to connect and communicate with their students regarding the conduct of online teaching. Also, this is being used by the program in uploading learning materials which are accessible to its faculty members.

The ensure fair and objective evaluation of the output of the students, the M.S. Economics program is using Rubrics for Scoring/ Assessing Oral Presentation of output of each individual student.
The Rubrics is composed of the following areas of assessment: (1) Mastery of the topic (30%), organization and delivery (20%), utilization of Instructional Materials (20%), enthusiasm/ audience interaction (10%) and overall learning outcomes (20%)

Thus, when used appropriately, it can provide response content and construct (i.e., response process) validity evidence. The Faculty of Master of Science in Economics program extended the academic assistance to the students by allocating ample time for the consultation regarding their subject. Consultation permits services to be provided to many students with the goal of enhancing and enriching the learning of the students, providing an effective services to students, and to enhance the teaching strategy of faculty.
Since the Master of Science in Economics program incorporate Data Science and Analytics in its Major and Electives Subjects, the program is utilizing different statistical softwares in conducting statistical and economic analysis. The program uses statistical software such as Stata, Python, Tableau, E-Views and N-Vivo, and SPSS in conducting statistical and data analysis. The University also has ICT Computer Laboratory and Graduate School Computer Laboratory that contain statistical softwares for the utilization of the students in various subjects such as Analytics for Applied Economics and Business, Econometrics, and Big Data Econometrics.
The Master of Science in Economics Program transformed its syllabi for the Core Courses, Major Courses, Electives and Bridging subjects to adopt the Outcome Based Education (OBE) principles and process. The program ensures that it would adopt the four principles of OBE which are Clarity of Focus, Designing Down, High Expectations, and Expanded Opportunities.
To transform the syllabi of M.S. Economics into OBE format, the Graduate School conducted capacity building in adopting Outcome-Based teaching and Learning Theories and Principle last December 16, 2017.
