The study on the effects of internationalization of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines used quantitative research design with the aid of using survey and in-depth interview. The samples are composed of PUP administrative employees, faculty, administrative and executive officials, alumni, students and industry partners. The aim of the research is to assess the level of internationalization in the university, the adequacy of financial support given for internationalization, and the effects of the internationalization on the career of faculty and students, research engagements, and other opportunities.
The Master of Science in Economics program conducted an assessment study on the impact of internationalization in Polytechnic University of the Philippines. The respondents of the study are students, alumni, industry-partner; PUP Faculty and administrative employee; PUP administrative and executive officials; PUP property management, exchange student, and exchange faculty.
Based on the study, 67 percent of the respondents agreed that top leaders of the university express verbal and written support for internationalization of the university.
Based on the study, 71 percent of the respondents strongly agreed and 23 percent agree that the institutional mission/vision statement of the university specifically references an international dimensions.
Further, 60 percent of the respondents strongly agreed and 32 percent agreed that a professional development opportunities like workshops, courses and conferences are provided to faculty to promote internationalization.
Majority (37 percent) of the respondents strongly agreed that the university provides adequate funding for international teaching. This is an evident that the university gives ample funding for exchange teaching activities. In fact, the M.S. Economics have two visiting Professorial Lecturers of Analytics (Dr. Andrey Berezin) and Urban Planning (Dr. Nishimura Saturo).
Forty-one percent of the respondents strongly agreed that the university provides adequate funding for international research. As such, one of the priority thrust of the university funding for internationalization is the international research conference, presentation and collaborations.
Fifty-eight percent of the respondents strongly agreed that the top-leaders of the university express support for faculty participation in international activities.
Sixty-nine percent of the respondents strongly agreed that their respective supervisor expresses support for faculty participation in international activities such as research conferences, trainings, seminars, and workshops.
Fifty-three percent of the respondents affirm that the internationalization in the university has brought advancement in their career.
