RUSA 2.0 (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan): e-Dietary Monitoring System using Pervasive Sensing and Machine Learning for children in rural areas
Role: Principal Investigator
Funding Agency: Govt. of India
Period: 2019-2020
Amount Awarded: Rs. 7 lakhs
Project Description: The goal of the project is to provide a low-cost and robust system for accurate measurement of individuals’ dietary intake, specially intended for children in rural areas of West Bengal, India. We like to introduce a real-time food intake monitoring system using pervasive sensing technologies. Wearable sensors will be used to enable pervasive detection of eating episodes and automatic generation of dietary diary. The data is then sent to the remote server via wireless connectivity. The system analyses patterns like food type, the volume of the food, the motion profile, and bite/chewing actions. Based on the pattern the system will feedback regarding the eating behavior and consumed calories of a particular child.
