Science mixed with a dash of Fun: Meet the PI
Dr. Punita earned her Ph.D. in cell biology and cellular signaling from IIT Kanpur. Her PhD work was focused on the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), the largest class of the cell surface proteins and provided novel insights into the beta-arrestin interaction and signaling cascades downstream of the GPCRs. She moved to the USA for her postdoctoral training at the Department of Biophysics in University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre (UTSW), where she acquired expertise on state-of-the-art cryo-Electron microscopy for high-resolution structure determination of GPCRs, to further advance her knowledge on activation of these receptors. She chose to return back to her homeland for establishing her own lab focused on deciphering the intricate interplay between membrane proteins, lipids, and cell signaling, aiming to address fundamental biological questions with potential therapeutic implications.
When she’s not diving deep into science, Dr. Punita enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and unwinding with music, finding inspiration in both creativity and discovery.
