We rehearse twice a week: Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30-9:30pm.
The minimum time commitment is 4 hours a week (rehearsals), along with occasional week or weekend gigs, and weekend retreats during competition season (December-April).
No, we accept students of all majors.
While we have to be cognizant of graduation years to prevent too extreme of turnover on any given year, seniority does not play a direct role in acceptance to the group. Students of all grades are welcome and encouraged to audition.
No, Public Hearing is not directly under the jurisdiction of Peck School of the Arts. While we are a vocal ensemble, we are registered as an independent Student Organization, not as a PSOA ensemble.
Public Hearing auditions for the International Championship for Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) every year and if accepted, competes in early spring semester. Groups may prepare a 10 minute set with choreography and are graded on both audio and visual cohesiveness. There are three rounds in the ICCA: Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. 10 groups per region come together for Quarterfinals, and the top 2 groups advance to Semifinals, where only the group taking first place moves on to Finals in New York City.
