"Molly Malone" is one of Ireland’s most beloved songs and has become the unofficial anthem of Dublin. Each year on June 13th, Dubliners celebrate the city’s famous fishmonger with the Molly Malone Festival.
The song tells the story of a young fishwife who sold her wares on the streets of Dublin before tragically dying of a fever. Although Molly is generally considered a fictional character, a popular legend emerged in the late 20th century claiming she was based on a real woman who lived in 17th-century Dublin.
We recently performed "Molly Malone" during a concert at the Ramsdell Theatre in Manistee, Michigan.
