Once a year, our club hosts a FREE 2-day weekend event called the Penn State Pokémon Challenge (PSPC). This event is meant to mirror the mechanics of the Pokémon games: earn badges, go on side quests, and challenge the Pokémon League.
Participants must own a Nintendo Switch and a copy of either Pokémon Scarlet or Violet in order to compete, but the event is open for anyone, regardless of if they are competing or not. There will be side quests and games to enjoy that do not require a Nintendo Switch.
On Saturday, 8 gym leaders are placed around campus. Their teams are usually mono-typed singles teams, but theme teams and double battles have made an appearance in past semesters. Challengers have roughly 9 hours to roam around campus, complete side quests, challenge the gym leaders, and earn badges. Those that obtain all badges earn the right to challenge the Elite 4 on the second day of the event. Full rules can be found in the Rules tab.
On Sunday, the worthy challengers battle against the Elite 4, and those who emerge victorious will compete to become the Champion. The winner of the event earns the right to be the Champion during the following Spring PSPC AND get their name on the “Hall of Fame” plaque.
PSPC 2025 is taking place on March 29-30th.
