My professional goal is to meet the requirements to attend dental school and become an orthodontist. I want to have my own practice and later travel to uneducated towns around the world to educate and have camps about dental health.
Internship goals
Understanding the background knowledge of Biochemistry/ Organic Chemistry involved in the modifying of RNA samples.
** I will be required to read literature papers to understand the chemistry listed above and the molecular biology behind my research. I have been reading and understanding hardcore concepts about these subjects and the meaning they stand behind my research. The next part includes applying the knowledge and strengthening my hands-on lab experience for the rest of my time at the internship.
Building a network of connections with people on the internship site.
** Maintain a good relationship with my supervisor and Ph.D. students that train me for my research. I can do this by attending weekly meetings and gatherings that involved my team to strengthen my professional relationship.
Research other departments within my site and revisit my supervisor for feedback on work ethic behavior.
** Research other lab projects and career options at my site to explore other career options.
I chose this internship to further show my interest in the cancer research field which is totally different from my future goals and career. My internship requires me to understand and apply hardcore knowledge and perform very detail-oriented work. My internship goals will help me gain professional experience and skills such as professional communication, understanding hardcore concepts of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, and analyzing/ problem-solving when needed, effectively organizing, designing, and running experiments. I look forward to some of the skills and applying them when performing lab work in dental school and working as a researcher for my undergraduate capstone. These skills will give me confidence in performing real-world problems and build on my knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry in my future classes at IUPUI.
Earn top grades, update resume and LinkedIn to attract job sites such as Eli Lilly, and other companies.
Learn a specific skill or specialization in the field of my interest that includes photography, and art/ architectural designs.
Participate in a sorority and pre-dental club at IUPUI to be exposed to different cultures.
** Throughout my time at IUPUI, there are many activities I want to be involved in such as participating in a sorority to connect with people and peers of different backgrounds, mentoring and advising incoming freshmen through a mentoring program, participating in research at IUPUI to help make a difference and impact, involve in Orientation team to be the best guide for students around IUPUI. I want to involve myself to help students answer their questions which are often hard, especially as an incoming freshman. My aim has been the same since the start of college and I am taking critical steps every day to reach my aim by setting specific career goals. I make sure I take every step carefully by doing my best at my internship in terms of reading literature work and trying to apply for the work in hands-on experiments. Also, my other job at IUSD will bring me success in the future as it will strength my application, introduce me to professional people and strengthen my involvement at IUSD. During this semester and the rest of the years at IUPUI, I will continue to follow my degree path, involve in volunteering at IU Health, be an active member of the pre-dental club and develop connections with my peers through the activities mentioned above to help me become a successful professional person to further continue my studies at dental school and enter the world to actually grant help for people in need. The need and necessity of helping others came to my reality when I once helped a beggar whom I always see on the street on my way to campus from my home, and lending him a small token of bread or a cloth brings me peace and a feeling of ease that someone has something to eat and wear tonight but not sure about tomorrow- so, with that regards I would also want to lend help to those in need because the feeling of helping someone is pure and peaceful.
** My career goals are important to reach my aim which is getting admitted into one of the nice dental schools. Once I graduate from dental school with a solid work foundation and years of experience, I would like to travel to different cities and towns across the world to learn about dental health and investments in their systems. This goal will help me educate poor towns about dental health and be their supporter in the dental health field because I believe dental care is very important for everyone, but most especially for younger kids. This career goal is very important to me because it has a solid foundation for my long-term goals such as traveling, helping people in need, and exploring my interests in different backgrounds/ cultures while also being introduced to photography. My career goals will help me gain a solid foundation for achieving my long-term aims. I have bigger aims in my future life, which is why I want to invest my time and effort into this career field.
During this year and the rest of my time at IUPUI I want to participate in volunteering through the pre-dental club and VIDA organization. My long-term goal for the next two years is to be an active member of the pre-dental club and VIDA to serve service opportunities within Indianapolis and outside the country. This will help me strengthen one of my future goals to travel across different cities and learn about their dental health by teaching me to be self-confident and present myself to the local people. Next, over the summer I plan to reflect back on my degree plan by taking some classes. I consider continuing my research at my internship site over the summer and building a stronger foundation by strengthening my laboratory skills while learning complex levels of molecular Biology and applying the knowledge to further help with the research with my supervisors. Along with these multiple activities, I reflect back to reach out to some local dentists to shadow them which will help me strengthen my application process. Over the next few summer vacations, I plan to reflect on my academics, refer to an Internship at Eli-Lily or apply for a research job position at IUSD, and prep for the dental school applications. This internship is totally different from my career preference, but it has helped me become confident in understanding complex experimental procedures and applying that with hands-on experience in the lab. It has become an interest of mine to continue with the experience and find some sort of results by the end of the summer term. I have been making sure to look out for my goals whether long-term/ short term and this internship has given me the strength to believe in myself and set up goals in a very positive way. My choices and goals have been my own decisions, I am a first-gen student and the oldest sibling in my family, meaning the hard-core decision choices about self-knowledge and career-related preferences/decisions have been my own. I am confident to put together my morals, traditional values, and experience throughout my time at IUPUI so far, to move forward toward my aims.
