On October 15th, our group helped the team at Magnolia Glen Put on "Bringing The Fair Home," a mini-state fair for Magnolia Glen's residents and associates. It was a full-day affair from 10 am until it closed at 6 pm with the Casablanca Orchestra performing to close the day out. Our goal for the Fall Festival was to provide a safe environment (COVID-19) for senior residents of Magnolia Glen to socialize and enjoy a replication of the State Fair with games, prizes, music, food, and vendors.

Edgar - Edgar was born and raised on a working farm outside of Savannah, Georgia, where, as a young boy, his mother and father began building his character around the principles of hard work, family and service. Edgar has now published two autobiographies and is now working on his third. Edgar is now a resident at Magnolia Glen and his two books can be found on Amazon (with a 5 star rating for each).
Mary - Mary brought her hand dyed scarves to the Magnolia Glen Fair. We loved hearing about how she creates such art and how no two pieces are alike. Mary is a resident at Magnolia Glen and often displays her pieces for residents to admire.
Residents should participate in games or other activities to encourage socialization with each other and to induce a pleasant feeling of nostalgia which will be evaluated through a post-event survey.
Residents should each win one game and at least one small prize. - for a sense of accomplishment and to have memorabilia of this meaningful experience.
Residents should spend time outdoors (weather permitting) listening to music, shopping, eating, and playing games while getting appropriate levels of physical exercise.
We learned through interviewing residents and observing the actvities that we met all of our intended program outcomes. The whole event was able to go on outside, meeting our goal to get residents to spend time outdoors. We made sure that every resident that played the games we designed won a prize, whether it was a free pizza from mod pizza or a stuffed animal it was great to see the look on their face after playing the games. To improve, we could have done a better job of collecting post event surveys as we just talked to residents after the event instead of creating a formal survey.
