This is a course designed to guide students through their transition from students into working professionals. This team worked with Magnolia Glen to demonstrate our learned skills in reality. Through the course of this semester, we have spent hours planning and preparing for recreational programs to be held by us at Magnolia Glen. We curated two programs that honor Magnolia Glen's mission as well as encourage residents to do something new and exciting.
Through this experience, we learned many lessons. From how to work around missing equipment, to the unique challenges of working with senior citizens. Some of these challenges include risk management with the consideration of differing abilities and health and program planning for a population that can be difficult at times to encourage. Learning how to clearly communicate and facilitate programs in a respectful and enthusiastic way is another essential lesson learned. The experiences at this service-learning site have made critically thinking, future program planners that work just as well on a team as when alone.
