Elena Kokkoni

Dr. Elena Kokkoni joined the Department of Bioengineering at UC Riverside in 2018 as research faculty and transitioned to a tenure-track position in 2020. Previously, she was at the University of Delaware where she received her postdoctoral training in human-robot interaction under the mentoring of Prof. Herbert Tanner and completed her doctorate degree in Biomechanics and Movement Science under the advisement of Prof. Cole Galloway. During those years, she worked on the development and evaluation of novel interventions and technologies to advance the motor function of pediatric populations with physical challenges. She has also received a master's degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha and conducted research on human movement variability at the Nebraska Biomechanics Core Facility under the advisement of Prof. Nicholas Stergiou. At UC Riverside, she aims to create and assess novel pediatric learning environments that combine various types of assistive technology and early motor training, and to apply those in real world settings for high-dosage neurorehabilitation.
