I began teaching at the School of Health Professions (SHP) as an adjunct faculty member in 1999. In 2013 I became a full-time faculty member and program director. I have been the primary instructor of 13 courses (in-person and online), and a co-instructor and faculty research advisor in 5 courses.
My Doctor of Education program included learning science and adult learning theory, and most of my teaching and research is based on multiple learning theory orientations. I continually self-reflect and improve my teaching. I earned a Certificate in Effective Instruction by participating in a year-long training by The Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) and The American Council on Education (ACE) in April of 2019.
Of note, in the fall of 2019 and the fall of 2020, I conducted action research projects. Action research in education is a systematic inquiry conducted by teachers that involves gathering information about the learning environment. This information was gathered with the goal of gaining insight into the educational approach so that the curriculum can be refined and improved.
In addition to didactic teaching and graduate student research advisement, I am also a member of SHP's Statistical and Methodological Support Team (MSST) which is part of the SHP Office of Research. The purpose of the MSST team is to help SHP faculty plan, develop, and carry out research. My role on the MSST team includes providing support to faculty in qualitative and mixed methods research. As with my teaching, I continually improve my skills, and I completed a graduate certificate (15 credits) in Applied Mixed Methods Research to further develop my expertise.
