You are living in the 19th century United States (between the years 1800-1899). Your group will choose and research an event that took place during this time. This event could be related to slavery, the California Gold Rush, the war of 1812, the civil war, the building of the transcontinental railroad, or any other major event in the U.S. that caused a disagreement. You will each listen to 5 protest songs made during the 1800s. Your group will decide your stance on the historical event chosen. You will each come up with a line in protest of your historical event and will create a protest song/poem.
Learning Objective: After conducting research on a historical event in the United States during the 1800s, students will create their own protest song in a group.
