Inkopolis is the place to be if you're one of the cool squids on the block. With the freshest eateries, shops, and the biggest pop sensations in all the world performing. And you're also in time for the Splatfest, but Pops may need you for a secret mission. If you're not inking on coming, we hope you change your mind so we can sea you later!
Get ready, Inklings and visitors alike, because it’s time for a brand new Splatfest: dark rides versus roller coasters! Climb into your Splat Kart and try to cover more of the arena in your team’s ink, before your opponents can paint themselves a win!
Queue: Stepping through the doors beneath Inkopolis Tower, guests enter into an elevator. With a cheery message from Pearl and Marina, guests emerge from the elevator and step out into the Battle Lobby. The halls look like the passages of a sports stadium, filled with ads from the various shops of Inkopolis and TV reports from Off the Hook. Next, guests walk through a display room with brand new Splat Karts on display, outlining their features and how they’re used in Splatfests. Another hallway brings guests past a results board of previous Splatfests and a leaderboard displaying the names of different Inklings. Soon, guests descend a set of stairs to the loading area. A sign held above shows the Splatfest they’ll be participating in: dark rides (with the color blue) versus roller coasters (with the color red). At the bottom of the stairs, guests will be sent to a Splat Kart on the left (blue) or right (red) of the loading area.
Ride Description: As the Splat Karts pull away from the loading area, they move closer as they drive through a gate labeled “Hammerhead Arena”. They head down a metal hallway as a monitor turns on, with Pearl and Marina on it. They eagerly announce, “This is it! The colors will clash, as we find out what’s the better amusement park ride! Let’s hear them scream, ‘cause it’s time for a Splatfest!”. With that, the vehicles hang to the left and enter the arena.
The first portion of the arena is modeled after the Urchin Underpass, as the vehicles navigate around railings and grate walls on straightaways with light turns. At several points are walls and slopes that riders can paint over, adding points to their team’s side. There is not much danger here, except from your opponents trying to shoot your Kart’s Ink Regulator (a squid-like orb up over the back row of the Kart) and spin you out. You’ll still be moving forward, but spinning out will throw off your ability to aim. A few Inklings will appear and might send your Kart spinning, unless you shoot them first and stop them. Over the speakers, riders can hear Marina say, “Good work, but let’s add just a little more competition."
Leaving the walls of the Underpass, riders enter a more constrained space inspired by the Sturgeon Shipyard. Plenty of sharp turns will take riders around the girders and walls that offer the painting opportunities for them here, but the more constrained space offers plenty of traps. Splat Bombs can offer additional points if they’re painted before they “explode” and send riders into a spin, while Inklings armed with Splatterscopes hide out on platforms above as they paint and strike. Eventually, both vehicles find themselves facing a cackling Inkling who preps a Killer Wail. If its target points are painted over in time, the powerful weapon is stopped and the scoring team gets a solid point bonus. If not, the Killer Wail blares and both Karts are sent spinning. Taking a swing to the right, riders hear Pearl call out, “This fair play is BORING! It’s the final round! Let’s drift Karts and splatter ink!”.
Now in the final section of the arena, this time rooted in Wahoo World, both vehicles are weaving along an S-shaped track as they face each other. Slopes, shifting walls, and vending machines offer plenty of targets for painting, but this new perspective makes it all the easier for both teams to fire off at the Ink Regulators. The Inklings caught in this chaos have brought out the Splat Brellas to shield themselves, even as they try to fire off ink. Eventually, the swooping road and Splat Karts straightens out as an airhorn sounds. Marina calls out, “And that’s the Splatfest! Let’s see how our teams did,” as both vehicles pass through an exit gate and into a hallway similar to the start. They slow down in front of Judd the Cat, as a meter calculates the paint sprayed. When the winner is picked, Judd holds up the appropriately-colored flag and points his tail to their side.
Both Karts split away from Judd, heading down their own hallways. If the blue team wins, they hear Marina say, “Yay! Dark rides always know how to tell a story, and you guys told a winning tale out there”, while a loss has her saying, “Oh, well. At least the dark rides get us out the heat”. If the red team wins, they hear Pearl say, “Boo-YAH! Coasters are awesome, and we sent those fools in a loop de loop!”, while a loss has her saying, “What was that?! I had more thrills out on the kiddy coaster than what I saw out there!”. In any case, after the respective quote, riders hear them say, “Thanks for playing! Remember: don’t get cooked…stay off the hook!” as the vehicles leave their hallways and pull up to the unloading area. Departing guests will head up a flight of stairs, bringing them down a hallway into Shell Surplus.
Oh, no! Cap’n Cuttlefish has discovered that DJ Octavio has launched an invasion with his Octarian troops, intent on creating a massive flood to wipe out the Inklings. Hop aboard a Battle Barge and join Agent 3 in a mission to clear out the Octarians, before they wash Inkopolis down the drain!
(River rapids ride)
Queue: Among the eye-catching buildings around Inkopolis, guests find a more old-fashioned structure whose sign reads “Manta Marina Interior Dock”. Entering the boathouse, guests navigate through hallways lined with maps of the sewers, pictures of Octarians, and signs warning Inklings to wear protective gear around water. Eventually, they pass through a room where Cap’n Cuttlefish stands as he explains the situation. He explains that DJ Octavio has returned with the Octostopper, a robot that will plug into a major drainage system at Manta Marina and create a flood in Inkopolis. Guests will hop aboard a Battle Barge and run interference, as Agent 3 goes to shut down the Octovalve. Turning away from Cap’n Cuttlefish, guests reach the loading dock, which turns at a constant leftward spin.
Ride Description: Hopping aboard their Battle Barge, riders move past a platform with an open sewer manhole. Agent 3 stands next to the manhole, giving riders a thumbs-up as they sail past. They emerge from the boathouse, and enter the Manta Marina Channel on a lift. It all seems quiet…too quiet. Then, Tentakooks pop up from their hiding place. “This Marina’s our territory now!,” they call out, as pipes along the lift’s sides start to burst water upward. At the lift’s top, an Octocommander trains his gatling gun on riders as he calls out, “Saddle up, boys! Inkling goons ahoy!”. Before he can fire on them, they reach the top and drop into the raging rapids, making a quick right.
Sailing past a waiting ship, riders drift along a series of harbor platforms, where Octotroopers open fire with water on riders as they head down the straightaway. An Octotrooper operating a control panel sends riders sailing to the left on a snaking path, with the raging waters and guide walls making big waves to splash the riders. Eventually, they drift along a wide circle around the Octostopper, which resembles a big stopper with an octopus tentacle poking out the top. Sides of the Octostopper are covered in green ink splotches, while Agent 3 stands atop as he sprays the octopus tentacle with his Splat Dualies. Geysers of water occasionally burst around the Octostopper, soaking any unlucky riders as they make the circle around it.
Eventually, the Battle Barge heads down a straightaway, with a seeming moment of peace. However, that peace ends as they head toward a walled-in area, with a wall on their left-hand side featuring a sign that reads “Boat Wash”. Making a right turn in, riders side themselves surrounded by Octopods hiding among the washing equipment, squirting out water at riders as they sail past. A left-hand turn them brings riders to a barrage of Octowashers, spinning as they periodically flick water at riders. At the end of the path, Agent 3 is taking aim at something. Riders see what it is as they make a slight right to another lift: DJ Octavio, hiding in an ink-splattered control booth as he operates levers. As riders climb up the hill, DJ Octavio taunts, “Fools! Before you send my plans down the drain, I’m sending you out to sea!”.
Taking a left as you reach the top of the lift, the waters rage as the Battle Barge gets sent roaring down a snaking path of turns. Weaving around ruined ships and through old boathouses, rough waves splash riders left and right. A quick pass through one such boathouse briefly reveals Agent 3 standing over an ink-covered DJ Octavio, as riders come to one final lift. However, the waters pouring from its top bring riders into a gentler cruise. They ride along an oval-shaped path, around an island where DJ Octavio angrily sits inside a snowglobe prison. Agent 3 gives riders a thumbs-up as they sail back towards the Manta Marina Interior Dock. Before they enter, Cap’n Cuttlefish stands on a dock platform to say, “Great work, buckos! You really stopped those octojerks!,” as they pass, while a leaky pipe over the Interior Dock entrance gives one last soak for riders before they reach the loading and unloading dock.
A small outdoor stage is the place to be, once the Squid Sisters and Off The Hook sings for free! On select times during the day, the Inkopolis Stage comes alive as Callie and Marie (of the Squid Sisters) and Pearl and Marina (of Off The Hook) takes the stage for an exclusive public gig. Move, shake, and dance to the beat of their popular hits, such as “Now or Never!”, “Spicy Calamari Inkantation”, “Ebb & Flow”, and more!
In between performances guests can meet with Callie, Marie, Pearl and Marina who love to take pictures with their fans. Meeting either individually or in pairs these pop sensations want photos to be the most splattastic, meeting in-front of an epic splatter wall for maximum aesthetic. When the stars are't meeting, this wall can be used for some epic #splatterwall pictures to rival Walt Disney Worlds own collection of photo walls. Spyke also uses this wall to hang up signs pointing to his hidden back alley merch stand right on the other side of the wall.
With all the business that he has been doing thanks to the Splatfests, Sheldon has decided to expand business with a new location and new store: Shell Surplus! Stepping inside, guests will see the brick walls covered with a colorful variety of weapons (and a picture of Sheldon, located near the registers). Although the grander items like the Splat Roller or Splatterscope are purely for display, Sheldon has provided plenty of other tools from his backlogs to sell. Squirt guns modeled after the Splattershot, Blaster, and L-3 Nozzlenose offer guests with fun options for when they have their own water fight. In addition, the store also sells Inkbrushes in various colors. These tools are special, as they can interact with special “splotches” located around Inkopolis and paint them in the Inkbrush’s color. Beyond these playful weapons, the store also sells a variety of toys and plushes modeled after characters from the Splatoon games.
Spykes Back Alley Gear is located behind the meet n greet wall as a small merch stand. Spyke may not need to sell black-market goods anymore but a brand is a brand and this sea urchin is committed to selling on the down low. Guests can find squid and octo headgear, interactive paintbrushes, shirts, and splat guns at this little cart. It also has a few Spyke pins and hats not found anywhere else in the park, making this shady shop unique and interesting.
The Gallereefa is a one-stop-shop for all things Splatoon. It carries the best merchandise from all of Inkopolis, from shirts and jackets from Jelly Fresh, shoes from Shella Fresh, to other clothing accessories from Headspace. A wide array of store displays, categorized and themed according to the aesthetic of each in-game store, will dot the space.
Thanks in part to the Splatfests, Crusty Sean has moved up the gastronomic ladder and is now a restaurant owner! Inspired by the food truck of the same name from Splatoon 2, The Crust Bucket is a table-service restaurant filled to the brim with fun and outrageous Japanese delights.
As they approach from Port of Entry, guests wouldn't miss the towering statue of The Crust Bucket's proprietor above the restaurant's entrance. As guests enter the restaurant, an animated figure of Crusty Sean himself is seen right at the entrance interacting with the crowd. As an homage to his roots, Crusty Sean has decided on an industrial aesthetic for the restaurant, opting for subway tiled walls (in yellow and white, of course), exposed ceilings, silver tables and chairs, etc. Posted along the walls are some of The Crust Bucket’s famous guests, including Off The Hook and the Squid Sisters themselves!
A wonderland of savory Japanese-inspired dishes and tasty desserts await guests, as they can feast on fusion Japanese dishes and even gameplayer favorites like the Super Seanwich (king prawn tempura sausage sandwich with relish, lettuce, ketchup and mustard) and the Deep-Fried Shwaffle (cheese waffle topped with a cereal-coated banana, licorice, and vanilla ice cream)!
Guests can cool off and reload their ink tank with colorful drink from the splat shack. Clear cups show off the rainbow drinks, or grab a specialty paint-can for even more ink. With flavors like Strawberry Squid, Octo Orange, and Paint Roller Punch there is a drink for everyone, no matter which color you wield. Splatter Shock: a lime and pineapple "ink drink" is a fan favorite and adults can add tequila, vodka, or rum to any of the drinks for a spiked splat.
