Brief History of PNHS
Prosperidad National High School started its operation in 1996 as a Public Secondary School of Poblacion, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. This was initiated by the Barangay Officials headed by Barangay Captain Dionisio S. Gavino Jr. of the said barangay. It started as an Annex of Agusan del Sur National High School, one of the lead schools in the Division of Agusan del Sur, with Mrs. Rachel M. Blanco as Teacher-in-Charge together with six(6) locally funded teachers. With two hundred forty (240) students, the school held its classes at the makeshift classrooms which were built adjacent to the Barangay Office.
In the early part of 1998, Honorable Antonio B. Maturan, the Municipal Mayor of Prosperidad, through the help of the Provincial Government Unit, it started to develop its school site at Purok 22, Poblacion, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. A semi- concrete and some makeshift buildings were constructed in preparation for the opening of classes for the next school year. By the month of June, 1998, the school had officially opened its classes in its school site. Furthermore, the Principal, Mrs Rachel M. Blanco, had prepared the needed documents for the Nationalization of the school. On June 8, 1998, the DECS Central Office then approved and recognized the school as Prosperidad National High School. After the documents for legislation were submitted to the Congress, on August 22, 2000, the school was finally legislated by virtue of the Republic Act 8898 signed by no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency, Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
As the operation in the school site started, the school’s population had increased remarkably. With this situation, more classrooms and more teachers were needed. In fact, for school year 2003-2004, the school had approximately a total of 1,213 officially enrolled students. More teachers were hired to accommodate the remarkable increase in population.
In 2008, Prosperidad National High School became one of the Implementing Units or Empowered Secondary Schools in the Division of Agusan del Sur.
As of this time, there are already five (5) Principals who had effectively served and contributed to the success of the school since its establishment in 1996. From 1996 to 1999, Mrs. Rachel M. Blanco was responsible for the nationalization and the legislation of the school, and for the establishment of the school in its school site. From 1999 to 2001, Mrs. Adelina B. Magsigay, continued what the former Principal had started but in 2001 Mrs. Rachel M. Blanco was assigned again as the Principal of this school. She had continued to serve in this institution up to 2009. The construction of several buildings which were badly needed was realized during this time through the help of the National and the Local Government headed by Honorable Mayor Nestor L. Corvera.
When Mrs. Susan Z. Senobin assumed as Principal of the school in 2009, the Career Pathways in Technology and Livelihood Education (CP-TLE) and the MDG-YEM Scholarship Programs were introduced. She was succeeded by Mr. Rodrigo C. Limas, who had fully implemented the K to 12 curriculum. He was the Principal of the school from 2012 up to April, 2015. By the year 2016, the Principal, Mr. Carmelito H. Anino aims for the best and also desires to improve the school in collaboration with the Local Government through the continuous help and leadership of Honorable Mayor Albin D. Magdamit.
While the present Principal, Dr. Marilou P. Curugan has proven her expertise in management and has sustained different programs, school initiated projects and interventions with the hopes of obtaining its goals and objectives.
With its vision of producing morally upright graduates both in academic and technical- vocational aspects, the school has continued its aspirations to deliver quality- based education to the people of Prosperidad.
