Our leadship has coordinated many projects and accomplished many things with volunteers from Keep Omaha Beautiful, friends, neighbors and even some paid help.
Examples: the removal of decades of trash and illegal dumping, several hundred tires, dozens of couches and matressess, etc., the removal of homeless camps, many beautification projects--clearing two lookouts, as well as the tennis court and surrounding area of honeysuckle. We wrote a grant for cameras. We have conducted daily patrols and interior patrols for years. We have written numerous reports for Omaha Police Department as well as attended CPAC meeeting until Covid restrictions. We have engaged the press and TV news agencies. We received a Project of Merit award from the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance. We have started a neighborhood association and were recently voted into SONA. We have a combined OCCP. We are now ready to start full engagement and cooperation with city officials to make these parks SAFE.
This will be the first attempt to get the neighborhood association, the people that work in and patrol the park, certified citizen patrol under our neighborhood association, our city councilman, the City Public Works Department, the mayor, parks and planning departments involved, so that a program like SAFE can be instituted/implemented to save everyone time and money.
