PROOF runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. The app's interface is in English.
Getting started
How does PROOF work?
PROOF does two things. It lets you save free, unlimited checkpoints of your draft to build a private, timestamped record of your writing over time. And, on demand, it runs AI writing analysis on text you choose to submit. Start by creating a project, or by using the Quick Scans bucket for one-off checks.
Can I send text in from other apps?
Yes. PROOF includes a share extension. In any app, select your text, tap Share, and choose PROOF to scan or checkpoint it.
Checkpoints and receipts
What is a checkpoint?
A checkpoint is a snapshot of your draft at a moment in time. When you save one, PROOF records the timestamp, the word count, a diff showing what changed since your previous checkpoint, and a SHA-256 content fingerprint of the exact text. Together, your checkpoints form a timeline that shows your work taking shape.
What is the fingerprint for?
The SHA-256 fingerprint is a compact, tamper-evident signature of the text at that checkpoint. If the text were altered later, the fingerprint would not match. It is part of what makes your record defensible.
Do checkpoints cost anything?
No. Checkpoints are free, unlimited, and work completely offline. They never leave your device.
AI scans, and how to read them
What scans are available?
Authorship scan, which reads AI-versus-human signals sentence by sentence. Citation check, which checks your citations against APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard. Source trace, which searches the open web for close matches to your phrasing. And a full report, which combines authorship and source trace.
How do I read the band and confidence level?
An authorship scan gives you a band, human-leaning, mixed, or AI-leaning, and a confidence level of low, medium, or high. The band is the direction the evidence points. The confidence is how strongly it points there. A high-confidence AI-leaning result is a stronger signal than a low-confidence one. PROOF never gives a percentage and never gives a verdict, because no tool can prove how a text was written. Read the result as one signal among many.
What is voice drift?
If you calibrate a voice profile from your own past writing, future scans can flag passages that read unlike your usual style. Drift is a prompt to look more closely, not evidence of AI use.
Why might a scan be unreliable?
Detection is weaker on short passages, heavily edited text, translated text, and non-native English writing. In these cases, expect lower confidence and treat results with extra care.
Is the source trace like Turnitin?
No. Source trace is a general web search for close phrasing matches on the open web. It is not an academic database and it is not equivalent to Turnitin.
Offline use and refunds
Can I use PROOF offline?
Yes. Checkpoints, projects, insights, and all your on-device features work fully offline. Only AI scans need a connection, because the text you submit is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to the AI provider for analysis.
What happens if a scan fails?
If a scan cannot be completed, PROOF refunds it automatically so you are not charged for analysis you did not receive.
Privacy and erasing data
What data leaves my device?
Only the specific text you choose to submit for a scan. It is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the analysis. Your projects, checkpoints, fingerprints, reports, voice profile, insights, and settings stay on your device. There are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking.
How do I erase my data?
Open Settings in the app and choose the erase all data option. Because your data lives on your device, erasing it removes it.
