In August of 2019, a group of educators from across the country traveled to San Diego and were encouraged to become leaders for the National Education Association's Just Schools Program. This program was designed by educators to create more equitable learning spaces and greater opportunity for all students. The main goals of the program are to:
dive into understanding equity
investigate how bias impacts conditions of teaching and learning
explore ways in which they can improve school culture so that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Since the opportunity in California, New Hampshire Public School Educators Terry Burlingame, Misty Crompton, Lisa Dillingham and Jan Santosuosso have provided teacher workshops and worked with supportive organizations such as NEA-NH's Human and Civil Rights Committee to promote the mission of more equitable schools through racial and social justice. In 2020, Crompton was awarded the Christa McAuliffe Sabbatical award through the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation which allowed for a more significant time investment forming partnerships, examining curriculum and providing supportive tools for educators who wish to join them in this work. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us for more information about this program. We would also like to welcome Adam Krauss, the ELO Coordinator from Exeter High School, as a curriculum advisor for our group!
