Academic Profile

I study the emergence of self sustained persistent oscillations, in a cellular automata model, with excitation relaxation type of dynamics.

I have also worked with networks of iterated maps. The role of various coupling schemes, and the system’s collective responses to it, are of particular interest for me.

I spent seven years for my MS-PhD (Physics) at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali.

Since then, I've been learning new techniques, such as genetic algorithms and deep neural networks, and thinking about ways to apply them to decipher real world phenomena.

Right now, I am a postdoc at Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar.

Cellular Automata

Cellular automata models are a great way to understand collective emergent phenomena. If the system can be expressed as coupled dynamical units evolving in discrete space and time, CA models are a perfect fit. Here's a brief presentation on CA in general. The final section covers the Greenberg-Hastings model of a spatially extended excitable medium. I've used this model to study dynamical aspects of a general epidemic processes.
