On July 14, 2016 a 19 ton rental truck intentionally drove into the crowded walkway. This act killed 86 people during the cities celebration of Bastille Day. Over one third of the victims were Muslim, further driving the racial divide in Nice. The city received backlash for lack of security and failing to see the warning signs. The city cancelled fireworks for the next couple of years to allow for survivors to recover mentally and physically [8].
The city of Nice, in which the Promenade des Anglais resides in is known for their white sandy beaches. Phoenix Park houses one of the largest greenhouses in all of Europe being over 7,000 square meters in length. This greenhouse is home to seven different climates and a forest of ferns [7]. The Palais de le Mediterranee is a five star hotel with history dating back to 1929. It was well known during that time for its interior and exterior Art Deco style [6].
