Our group had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the Lions World Vision Institute and our Middleton HOSA chapter to bring their eye screening van directly to our school. This initiative was not only a major milestone for us but also a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in our community. The event was a resounding success, screening 102 individuals throughout the day, providing essential eye health services to those who may not otherwise have access.
Through these screenings, we discovered that 83 people had some form of an eye condition, ranging from common refractive errors to more serious issues that required further attention. With this information, we were able to recommend appropriate visual aids such as glasses or follow-up consultations with specialists to improve their quality of life. This opportunity to make such a tangible impact on individuals’ health and well-being was incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.
Building on the success of this first event, we were able to schedule three additional eye screening events at various locations within the next three months, further extending our outreach.
The event also saw a great turnout, with at least 20 people from each grade level participating, showing a strong commitment from the entire school to prioritize eye health. The diverse participation was a testament to the widespread interest and concern for vision health in our community. We were proud to see our classmates, teachers, and staff actively engaging with the initiative, making it clear that the need for accessible eye care touches everyone.
This experience has deepened our understanding of the challenges people face when it comes to accessing eye care, and it has inspired us to keep pushing forward in our mission. It reinforced the importance of preventive care and community-driven solutions, and we are now even more motivated to continue our efforts to improve access to vision screenings and educational resources. By continuing to raise awareness, host more screening events, and advocate for better eye health practices, we hope to make an even greater difference in the lives of those around us.
