After further analysis of thermodynamic diagrams and radar imagery, we can conclude that the remnants of Hurricane Ida were the culprit in fueling the Mid-Atlantic tornado outbreak. One of the events that we specifically examined was the Mullica Hill tornado, which thankfully had zero deaths being reported, with only a few injuries sustained. Given the pictures taken in the Event Description, it is amazing that so many people walked away from this event. Based on the damage observed in Mullica Hill, NJ, we can conclude a multi-vortex wedge tornado went through the area. The massive tornado seemingly hit the same houses within the street, and the tornadoes not only leveled one of the houses but also seemingly missed some houses along the same street. In other eyewitness reports from the same tornado, multiple vortices make themselves evident in the videos taken of the tornado.
After the storm chasing, members spoke with AMS President and Professor of Meteorology, Dr. Richard Clark. He had suggested we take instruments out into the field to help answer several questions we had from that day. We had noticed while chasing that the clouds were extremely low and Dr. Clark suggested taking out a few Windsonds from the department next time, and seeing what we obtain from the dataset. This conversation following Mullica Hill, was the igniting spark that would ultimately create TILTTING in its magnitude today.
