Applications for members are open year-round.
Applications for our Executive Team, however, will be up for a limited amount of time.
FAQs
Who can join the club?
Anyone is welcome, and no prior experience is necessary! Our club focuses on teaching people about things they may not have learned before. We strive to educate others on using STEM to solve everyday problems.
Are there membership fees or costs?
No, joining the club is free! All money for our projects is raised through fundraising. We believe that people should not have to pay to learn.
Can I earn volunteer hours for this?
Yes! The amount of hours you earn would be dependent on the work you put in, the meetings you showed up to, or the virtual work you did.
What kinds of projects does the club work on?
We work on projects that involve all parts of STEM. The skills we need to implement are based on the project and issue we are tackling. For example, if the issue we were solving was creating a moisture sensor for plants that needed to be watered, we would create a product using skills such as coding, breadboarding, and data analysis.
How often does the club meet?
It depends on the project! A harder project that requires more hands-on work would require us to meet up around once every 2-3 weeks. If a project exceeds that limit and may need further work, we would suggest the members take it home and work on it over virtual meetings. Those who work only virtually would meet weekly or bi-weekly.
Are meetings virtual, in-person, or both?
There are options to be a virtual or an in-person member. Those who participate virtually can choose to join a video call that will be going on as we do our in-person meetings. Virtual members will contribute to the more online work of the club, such as writing code for projects that need it, helping design prototype sketches, helping design club lessons, or helping with executive and outreach work.
Is the club open to students outside of school?
We accept people from anywhere. One issue to keep in mind, however, would be communication. Our club mainly operates in the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST).
Does the club participate in competitions or events?
We are looking to participate in competitions (or maybe host one in the future)! The competitions we participate in obviously will revolve around engineering, technology, and healthcare.
What are you looking to achieve in the future?
Although our club currently focuses on educating people on the use of STEM, our bigger goal is to work together to create an original solution to a problem that hasn't been solved yet. This could be an environmental, health-related, or a technology related problem.
Another thing we are working on for the future is creating small science kits that we could donate for use in local elementary or middle schools.
