The mission of Project LIKE (Literacy Is Knowledge Empowerment) is to provide youth attending non-profit and public organizations with access to free global literacy resources and academic support.
Our program aims to close the achievement gaps in literacy throughout San Diego's North County and build community resilience through education preparedness.
As a strong advocate of equitable education, Edwina Williams founded Project LIKE (Literacy Is Knowledge Empowerment) to provide youth from disproportionately impacted populations with access to free global literacy resources and support.
In 2010, Edwina graduated from MiraCosta College with an AA degree in Psychology. She earned a bachelor's in Psychology in 2012 and a master's in Sociological Practice from California State University San Marcos in 2015. After completing her master's degree program, Edwina entered a yearlong faculty internship program between the San Diego/Imperial County Community College Association (SDICCCA) and San Diego State University. This internship ultimately led to an associate faculty position in the Sociology Department at MiraCosta College in 2016.
In her first year of teaching, she was awarded a grant through the North County Higher Education Alliance (NCHEA) Collaboration to implement Project LIKE. Project LIKE began as a service learning and internship initiative at various nonprofit and public organizations in North County San Diego. Today, Project LIKE Inc. is officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free resources to youth and their families in North County through critical service learning projects and internship opportunities for high school and college students.
