Professor of Electrical Power Engineering University of Washington Tacoma
Dr. Thillainathan Logenthiran is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Graduate Faculty member in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington Tacoma, where he leads the Electric Power Engineering track within the School of Engineering and Technology. He joined UW Tacoma in January 2019, bringing over a decade of academic, research, and industry experience in power systems and smart grid technologies.
Dr. Logenthiran’s academic background includes appointments as an Assistant Professor at Newcastle University in Singapore, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom, and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Jaffna in Sri Lanka. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore and holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Peradeniya.
His research interests lie in smart grids, micro grids, distributed energy systems, renewable energy integration, and the application of intelligent computational methods and multi-agent systems in modern power systems. He is the Director of the Distributed Energy Systems and Intelligence (DESI) Lab, which focuses on developing scalable and intelligent solutions to real-world energy challenges.
Dr. Logenthiran has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and his work has been cited more than 5,555 times (h-index: 33). He contributes actively to the academic and professional communities as an Associate Editor for IET Smart Grid, a Chartered Engineer (UK), a Senior Member of the IEEE, and an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
