We are located at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad's Electronics Engineering department. We have visiting interns as well as graduate and undergraduate students working for us. The MHRD's Department of Science and Technology (DST) and IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, fund our study. Our study aims to tackle some of the fundamental problems on the frontiers of circuit design and optical devices. Specifically, important areas for research include:

These sensors have various applications, including in telecommunications, environmental monitoring, and biomedical sensing. Below, I'll provide you with a general overview of a fiber sensor lab and some common aspects you might encounter.

Equipment and Components:-

Fiber Optic Cables: Different types of optical fibers may be used depending on the application (single-mode, multi-mode, etc.).

Light Sources: Lasers or LED sources for transmitting light through the fibers.

Detectors: Photodiodes or other light-sensitive devices to measure the changes in light intensity.

Modulators/Demodulators: Devices for modulating and demodulating signals in fiber optic communication systems.

Signal Processing Equipment: Instruments for analyzing and processing the data obtained from the fiber sensors.

The Fiber Optic Sensors Laboratory focus is the application of various types of optical fibers and their optimization in terms of sensor construction. The research covers both simulation and design works, as well as the fabrication of optical fibers and their use in sensors. The laboratory carried out, among others, sensors for measuring ethanol concentration, for label-free detection of biomarker concentration, for measuring gas concentration, and for measuring the refractive index of liquids. Birefringent optical fibers and fibers with recorded Bragg grating are also being developed, which can be used in various types of optical sensors.

Types of Fiber Sensors:

Temperature Sensors: Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors are commonly used for measuring temperature changes.

Strain Sensors: FBG sensors can also be used to measure strain and deformation in materials.

Pressure Sensors: Microbend or macrobend sensors that change their output based on pressure changes.

Chemical Sensors: Fiber optic sensors can be designed to detect specific chemicals or gases by using appropriate coatings.
