Email is best! voigte@issaquah.wednet.edu

Even if you would like to speak over the phone, please send me an email and we can set up a time that works. It can be very challenging to answer a phone call during the school day, and I want to make sure I can give you my full attention.

About me:

This is my sixth year at Issaquah HS (my ninth year teaching), and I love it here! Previously I taught at Peninsula HS in Gig Harbor, and before that I taught outside of Washington, D.C., at TC Williams HS.

My mother's family comes from Puerto Rico, and I started learning Spanish from a young age. In high school, I studied Spanish and continued as a Spanish major at the University of Maryland. I studied in Madrid and have traveled to many places around the world. In my experience, traveling is always more fun when you can speak the language! Plus, I have found that locals love when you at least try to speak their language, and they occasionally reward your efforts with some insider tips on what to see and where to eat.

I am originally from the East Coast; I grew up in Rhode Island. I moved to Seattle in 2012 because I visited one time and loved it. I traveled across the country for two weeks with two hometown friends, and we finally made it to Seattle. Life is an adventure.

Speaking of adventures...Spanish class. This year I will be teaching Spanish 1 and Advanced Conversation and Culture. These courses move very quickly so it is important that students review their vocabulary every night. Every night for only ten minutes, though. That could be for two minutes while you brush your teeth and then six more on your way to school in the morning. You can do it!

During Spring Break 2017, I traveled to Antigua, Guatemala, with Ms. Noon (Liberty High School) and Ms. Nemechek along with sixteen IHS students. We had a wonderful time exploring the country and speaking Spanish! I would love to travel with students again in the future.

I would love to hear about any of your travels- local and abroad! It is a great conversation starter- in any language!
