An enthusiastic, self-motivated, and adaptable college instructor with more than a decade of higher education and clinical experience in psychology, demonstrating expertise in human development, educational psychology, psychological disorders, and therapies. Proven aptitude in professional and program development, staff supervision and training, and grant writing for large, multi-agency, state-funded, school- and community-based programs. Research interests include effective college-level instruction, specifically, Team-Based Learning with undergraduate students. Creator of three OERs: Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, and Educational Psychology. Also adapted two OERs: Lifespan Development: A Topic Approach and General Psychology.
Currently, a tenured professor at Hudson Valley Community College teaching General, Child, Adolescent, Developmental and Educational Psychology and advisor of the Psychology Club. Previous experience includes practice as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified School Counselor; clinical experience has primarily been with children, adolescents, and families in the child welfare system. Many of the families were court-ordered services, had issues with child abuse or neglect, or involvement with illegal activities. Early career experience working as a teacher and counselor with and for school systems.
Educational background includes a B.S. in Education, M.S.Ed. in Educational Psychology, and a second graduate program in Counseling from The College of St. Rose, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Methodology from the University at Albany.
Also, a wife and mother to two sons (21 and 19), two Norwegian daughters (23 and 22), and an Australian shepherd. Personal interests include travel, knitting, politics and activism, board games, and (begrudgingly) working out/running.
