I write to you to give my endorsement to Professor Arduini-Vanhoose in her nomination to receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
As a student-athlete at Hudson Valley, it has been easy to stress about getting work done and being able to focus on lectures and assignments. However, for Professor Arduini-Vanhoose, these concerns quickly faded. She gives ample time to complete assignments, is sure to remind students in class of work due, and even has an automated email reminder set up to ensure that students do not forget they have work due. More impressively, she always makes sure to make the lesson interesting and finds creative ways to make them interactive for the class. She has found ways to turn a class that some students were not particularly excited to take into an exciting and interesting part of their day. I know before I even step into class that I will be entering a friendly and non-stressful environment as Professional Arduini-VanHoose always makes sure to treat her students with dignity and respect, and does her best to put a smile on the faces of every student.
I have personally seen growth in my own abilities to organize my time due to aspects of her teaching. She has a very organized Blackboard page that makes planning out when to do certain assignments very easy. I am also able to go back and go through notes that I may have missed in class, making it very easy to gain a strong understanding of the topics. She has made her expectations clear since day one, and is happy to answer any questions a student might have. Professor Arduini-VanHoose is one of the most knowledgeable professors I’ve had, and can link topics in class to real world situations that are relatable to students, making the topics easier to understand and more interesting to learn. She is quick to respond to emails when clarification or extra help is needed on a subject, and takes time to thoroughly answer any questions that students have. Through her teaching and assistance, I have been able to be very successful in her class.
Professor Arduini-VanHoose is one of the best professors I’ve had so far and continuously rises above expectations. Her ability to bring out the best in her students is admirable.

I consider Dr. Nicole Arduini-Vanhoose to be one of the most dedicated professionals at Hudson Valley Community College. As a former HVCC student and Psychology Club member who has worked closely under Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose, I have come to know her well and would like to recommend her to receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
During my time at HVCC I was an Individual Studies student. Like many others in the program, I had no idea what field I wanted to explore or what I would like to do as a job in the future. I started out taking General Psychology and ended up loving the class. The next semester, I decided to take more Psychology courses. Lucky for me, one of the classes was taught by Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose. I took Abnormal Psychology with her, and it was during that semester that my love for the field of Psychology blossomed.
The readings that were assigned were interesting and diverse. I appreciated the frequent and open communication that Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose offered. The class material was connected to current events, and I remember having a blast talking about related topics. You could tell that Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose was passionate about Psychology, and it definitely translated in the way she handled classroom instruction. I thought to myself at the time, and said that if I were to ever become an educator in the future, I would like to be as awesome as her.
Another huge impact that Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose made during my time at HVCC was the Psychology Club. With her help, I was able to be a part of a professional club on campus. At first, it was very intimidating because I did not have a lot of experience being an active member of an academic club. But Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose was my advisor, and that made all the difference. Her experience, professionalism, and intellectual capabilities helped guide me with the Psychology Club.
I was the president of the Psychology Club in the Fall semester of 2015. Under her guidance, I was able to build the confidence and leadership skills needed to help manage the club. I delegated meetings and helped brain-storm on-campus activities. But having Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose oversee the Psychology Club made a tremendous difference. I have fond memories of my time with the Club. For example, we organized a Psychology workshop with invited speakers that talked about their background/expertise. Another huge event was the Eastern Psychology Conference. Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose helped tremendously for the EPA conference. Myself and other members of the Psychology Club conducted a campus-wide research, and we submitted it to the EPA conference. Unfortunately, our research did not end up getting accepted. But we had a ton of fun participating in the research anyway. With Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose’s help, myself and a few other members of the Psychology Club attended the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) conference! Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose helped us with getting a grant, so that many of us were able to go despite financial constraints. Coming from a low-income household, the fact that I was able to participate in the EPA conference without having to shell out hundreds of dollars in expenses was incredible. I have Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose to thank for that.
Looking back, I think that being her student has helped make me the person that I am today. As a HVCC alumni, I am forever grateful for my academic and personal growth as a Viking graduate. But I also recognize that a big part of my success stems from strong and supportive educators. Dr. Arduini-Vanhoose is one of those educators for me. I could tell how committed she was at fostering student success. I am a testament of her efforts. She is invaluable to HVCC. In my opinion, her unwavering devotion to better the lives of others exemplifies strong character.

Professor Arduini Van Hoose is a fantastic candidate to be selected as a recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
My name is Xxxxx Xxxxxx and I was president of the Psychology Club during my time at Hudson Valley Community College several years ago. My role the semester prior was Vice President. My experience with the club was great and to this day I speak of the accolades achieved during my time with it. Professor Arduini Van Hoose played an instrumental role in making the club great! We were able to thread great learning moments into lifelong memories. She helped boost my confidence, pointed me in the right direction with coordinating events, and was always there to help.
My organization, communication, and planning skills improved under her direction. Years later, she is still willing to go above and beyond to help. Professor Arduini Van Hoose propelled my academic career and was one of the best professors I had at college.

I am writing this letter in support of Professor Arduini-Van Hoose. I was in her General Psychology class in the Fall, 2018 and I am currently in her Developmental Psychology class.
As an instructor, I believe Professor Arduini-Van Hoose is quite brilliant and hardworking. She puts her best foot forward in helping me succeed. Her passion for psychology is clear in the way she puts forth her lectures. Her style of teaching is informative, coherent and engaging and leaves room for me to completely understand each topic. She communicates with diligence and respect and I admire her for that.
During my time in Professor Arduini-Van Hoose's course, I have learned the importance of teamwork. She has taught me that working with and supporting others can help to foster growth. I appreciate the opportunities she gives me, as well as every other student, to voice our thoughts. She encourages me to always speak up, even when I think my answers are wrong. She does her best to make herself available if I have concerns and she tries her best to clarify each one.
Professor Arduini-Van Hoose is simply a wonderful professor and mentor and I sincerely believe that she has the ability to push every student to their highest potential.
