I am leading the research group of multi-scale dynamics and extremes in open oceans and coastal regions, hosted by the University of Bergen at the Department of Mathematics. My leadership philosophy is (i) to create timely links between groundbreaking science and solutions for conquering pressing society challenges and (ii) to train next-generation young leaders in response to climate changes and the sector of offshore renewable energy.
Coastal physics and offshore technology
Physical oceanography
Extreme ocean surface waves
Multi-scales flow dynamics
Physical and AI-driven modelling
Offshore renewable energy
Since 2022, I am working at the University of Bergen, Norway, as an associate professor of fluid mechanics. I am a member of the Young Academy of Europe, an editorial board member of Marine Structures, associate editor of the Journal of Offshore Mechanics & Arctic engineering (JOMAE).
Yan Li holds a PhD from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), a bachelor's and master's degree in naval achitecutre and ocean engineering from Huzhong University of Science and Technology (HUST, Wuhan, China) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU, China), respectively.
As PI, Co-I, and partner, I have received financial support for several research projects from national and international funding bodies, such as the ERC, Marie Sklodowska-Curie – DTU H.C. Ørsted co-fund, Research Council of Norway, and the UK EPSRC-NERC co-fund. I have (co-)authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers, and invited to presenting her research and (co-) chairing sessions in national and international conferences, workshops, seminars, and summer schools.
