Your task is to request a letter of recommendation from one of your instructors. Assume that you will write an email making the request. Answer the questions listed below to help you plan your request. Then write the request. A. Why would your instructor want to write a letter of recommendation for you? What would increase your instructor’s willingness and delight in writing a letter for you? B. What tone will you try to project in your email? C. What information about you would your instructor need to write an effective letter of recommendation? D. How can you make it easier for your instructor to write a letter of recommendation? E. How can you show courtesy to your instructor since she/he is using her/his own time to do a favor for you? F. How will you order your message? What will be the subject line? G. Write the email request for a letter of recommendation.

9.2 Responding to Inquiries (LO 9.3) Assume you are an advisor for students in your program or major. A prospective student sends you the following message: “Hi, I’m interested in your major. Can you give me some information about it? What is the placement rate of your students in the workplace upon graduation? How much money do they usually get? What are the professors like? Do I have to have a minimum GPA to get in the program? Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Jack.” Respond to this message with sufficient detail. Remember your goal is to make a favorable impression on this prospective student.

9.3 Making Claims (LO 9.3) Think about a product or service you have purchased in the past that did not work properly. Write a claim to the company about it. Explain why your claim is justified and suggest action. Focus on achieving an assertive but friendly tone.
