As you sit down at the card table with the elves, you can't help but feel a sense of unease. The elves are clearly skilled at cards, and they seem to be enjoying the game far too much. You can't shake the feeling that they are up to something.

"So, human," one of the elves says, shuffling the deck. "What do you have to wager? We don't have much use for human currency in these parts."

"I have nothing to wager," you say, trying to back out of the game. "I just wanted to pass through and continue on my journey."

The elves laugh. "Oh, you have to wager something," one of them says. "Or else we'll have to turn you into gifts of meat for Santa's workshop."

Despite your reservations, you decide to play the game and see if you can beat the elves at their own game. To your surprise, you find that you are a skilled card player, and you manage to outmaneuver the elves and win the game.

The elves grudgingly admit defeat and allow you to pass. You thank them and continue on your journey, wondering what other dangers and challenges you will face in the depths of the cave network.
