Faculty of Granada (UGR)
With a research career rooted in optimising natural coastal systems, coastal morphodynamics, and reliability and risk analysis in maritime engineering, Prof. Baquerizo translates her expertise into three closely connected teaching topics: the foundations of probabilistic design, Level II and III verification methods, and practical skills for non-stationary and multivariate climate characterisation and simulation using MarineTools.
Full Professor at University of Cantabria and head of the Climate Risks, Adaptation and Resilience Group of IH Cantabria
A specialist in numerical modelling of wave interactions with coastal and offshore structures and vegetation, Prof. Javier Lara also works on the probabilistic design of infrastructure. In this course, he brings that dual expertise into practice, guiding participants from the theoretical foundations of probabilistic analysis to Monte Carlo series generation and full Level III verification of a real maritime structure through a practical case study.
Researcher at the GeoOcean Group
With a master’s background in coastal and port engineering and now a researcher at GeoOcean, Jared Ortiz has authored key studies on climate emulators for compound flood risk assessment, artificial reef design, and coastal risk assessment under climate change. In this course, he draws directly on that expertise to guide participants through the statistical analysis of coastal climate hazards, culminating with hands-on applications of climate-based emulators.
