Processor Ranking

Best Desktop Processors

In the Desktop Segment, AMD has overtaken Intel with their new Ryzen 3000 processors, For the same price as Intel Core i9-9900K, the Ryzen 9 3900X has higher cores (12). The upcoming 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X will be leading this chart once it becomes available in September 2019.

At high-end as well as mid-range, AMD offers more value and is a better choice for productivity. However, when it comes to gaming, Intel is slightly ahead due to their high frequency that goes beyond 5 GHz. Currently, the fastest mainstream Desktop Processor is Ryzen 9 3900X followed by the Core-i9 9900K. The Ryzen 7 3800X and 3700X take the 3rd and 4th spot. Ryzen 7 3700X is a better choice over 3800X due to much lower cost. The Intel Core i7 9700K is an excellent CPU for Gaming but it lacks Hyper-Threading thus its performance is productivity isn't as good as its competition.

In the mid-range segment, the Ryzen 5 3600 offers exceptionally good value for money and it is comparable to the Intel's previous gen Core-i5 8700K. If we go sub $200, we have option such as Core i5 9400F and AMD's APUs like 3400G & 3200G. Without a discrete GPU, these APU's offer decent gaming experience on budget. These APUs compete with low-end GPUs like Nvidia GT 1030 and AMD Radeon RX 550.

But when a discrete GPU is present, the i5 9400F or a previous gen Ryzen 5 2600 makes more sense.

Best Mobile Processors

In the Smartphone Segment, the Apple Processors are ahead of the Snapdragon & Exynos Processors. The upcoming A13 Bionic SOC is only going to extend this list further. Snapdragon and Apple have their own custom GPUs and their GPUs are superior when compared to the Mali GPUs of Samsung Exynos, Kirin, and MediaTek. However, Samsung is partnering with AMD to bring Radeon Graphics to their SOCs by 2021 so Samsung can take the lead in next 2 years.

When it comes to raw CPU Performance, Apple and Samsung are ahead when compared to Snapdragon & Kirin. However, Apple is still on a 4G Modem while the other brands have successfully made progress with 5G Modems. All these top mobile Processors are manufactured using either TSMC's 7nm Node or Samsung's 7nm/8nm Node and these are extremely power efficient. When you choose a phone with these SOCs, you are not only getting superior performance but also a smartphone whose battery lasts longer.

Apple's A13 Bionic chipset will compete with the upcoming Snapdragon 865. As per the initial reviews and benchmarks, it seems like Apple SOCs will continue their dominance over Qualcomm's & Samsung's flagship offerings

How we Rank Processors

The Desktop Processors are ranked on the basis of Multi-Core Score + Single-Core Score tests performed using our algorithm.

Our algorithm consists of various test such as running complex code blocks like SHA-3, AES, MD5, Dijkstra, Image Compressing/Decompression, Histogram Equalization, Ray Tracing, Image Segmentation etc. We also run Deep Learning algorithms involving Complex Neural Networks to judge the AI Performance.

While ranking Mobile Processors, we also take into account power efficiency and throttling on extended usage. Rest of the tests are the same on Mobile Platforms as well. As Mobile Processors have graphics on-board, we also take the Gaming & Graphics Compute performance into consideration. Thus, our Mobile Processors ranking can be better defined as 'Mobile SOC Rankings'. In a SOC, all the components such as CPU, GPU, DSP, ISP, and NPU are taken into consideratio
