I am primarily interested in advancing the understanding of operational decision-making within and across organizations in the presence of social and environmental considerations such as, UN Sustainable Development Goals. My research falls under the umbrella of socially responsible operations, and relates to one or more indicators of the following SDGs: SDG#1 (No Poverty), SDG#2 (Zero Hunger), SDG#3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG#4 (Quality Education), and SDG#10 (Reduced Inequalities).
My current research interests span two areas within the field of Operations Management:
(i) nonprofit operations and (ii) inclusive and sustainable operations.
In the recent years, I have dedicated my research efforts to studying problems involving the following dimensions:
Societal impact created by nonprofit organizations (NPOs)
Service portfolio design of NPOs serving distressed individuals (such as, domestic violence survivors, and homeless individuals)
Novel fundraising strategies developed by NPOs (for instance, ex-post funding)
Growth strategies for NPOs (say, scale and scope extension versus regional expansion)
Equitable and inclusive outcomes through better operations management
Resource-allocation strategies of organizations managing subsidy programs (for example, child care subsidy vouchers)
Operational decision-making that interfaces with the LGBTQ+ community (“rainbow operations”)
Value and effectiveness of efforts aimed at balancing 'people/planet' goals with 'profit' orientation
Technology-enabled business models aimed at helping smallholder farmers in emerging economies (e.g., farm equipment sharing using apps)
Investigating the emerging trend of "sustainability reaching the C-suite" (i.e., appointments of corporate sustainability executives)
Coordination issues due to profit versus societal objectives (e.g., quality-of-life outcomes versus profit in organ donation value chain)
During the course of my research, I have worked closely with several NPOs and government agencies, including Lifelink of Georgia (OPO), United Care Development Services, Daya, Georgia Works, Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, New England Farm Workers Council (CCR&R), and Hello Tractor. These associations have helped me develop research work that is grounded in practice, and has direct application/impact on ground.
