Here is a complete User Guide for Tabomatic. You can host this on your website, a Notion page, or use it as a script for a demo video.
The set-it-and-forget-it tab manager for Chrome.
Tabomatic automatically organizes your messy browser tabs into neat, color-coded groups based on keywords you define. Stop dragging tabs manually and let Tabomatic do the heavy lifting.
🚀 Quick Start (30 Seconds)
Pin the Extension: Click the Puzzle Piece (🧩) icon in your Chrome toolbar and click the Pin (📌) next to Tabomatic.
Open Tabomatic: Click the orange "T" icon.
Create a Rule:
Type a keyword (e.g., google).
Pick a color (e.g., Blue).
Click Add.
Test It: Open a new tab and go to google.com. Watch it instantly snap into a Blue group!
Tabomatic works by matching "keywords" in the website URL.
Simple Keyword: If you enter design, it will group design-milk.com, 99designs.com, and figma.com/design because they all contain that word.
Specific Domain: If you enter github.com, it will only group pages from GitHub, ignoring other sites that might just mention the word "github".
2. Customizing Group Names
Default colors like "Blue" or "Red" aren't very helpful. Give them meaning!
Open the extension popup.
Scroll to the Group Names section.
Type a name next to a color (e.g., Change Red to Urgent Work).
Now, when a tab matches a Red rule, the group header will say "Urgent Work" instead of just being a red dot.
3. Using the "Ungrouped" Shortcut
You don't need to type rules manually. Use the shortcut feature to organize your current mess:
Open Tabomatic and look at the "Live Tab Matches" list at the bottom.
Find the "Ungrouped" section. This lists all tabs that don't have a home yet.
Click the small green Create Rule button next to any website.
Tabomatic will automatically grab the domain, paste it into the input box, and scroll you to the top. Just pick a color and hit Add!
4. Side Panel Mode (Pinning)
If you are doing heavy research or organizing, you might not want the popup to close every time you click away.
Click the Pin (📌) icon inside the Tabomatic header (next to the logo).
Tabomatic will move to the Chrome Side Panel on the right side of your screen.
It stays open while you browse, allowing you to tweak rules and manage groups in real-time.
Your rules are automatically saved to your Google Account.
Sync: If you sign into Chrome on a laptop and a desktop, your rules will appear on both automatically.
Backup: In the "Backup & Restore" section, click Export Rules to save a .json file of your setup. You can share this file with colleagues or use it to restore your setup later.
