K-12 ELA Supporting Resources for Priority Standards
The resources found on this page were compiled by Missouri educators in response to teachers requesting additional content-specific information to support local curriculum and assessment work surrounding the English language arts priority standards. The purpose of these resources is to serve as a starting point for local discussions around pedagogy, curriculum, instruction and assessment. They are teacher suggestions based on experience and insights gleaned from teaching the MLS over the past five years and are intended to represent a diverse and flexible range of ideas.
Vertical Alignment of ELA Priority Standards
This document, developed by Missouri educators, shows the progression of priority standards in grades K-12 ELA. The first column identifies the ELA strand printed vertically (Reading, Writing, Language, Speaking/Listening). The bold wording represents the big idea/concept (comprehension, vocabulary, etc.) of the Missouri Learning Standards and the bulleted item(s) listed below are the priority standards. This document does not contain identified supporting standards as mentioned above.
Bundling of ELA Priority Standards with Supporting Standards
The newly-created Leverage Learning in English Language Arts Bundling document provides one example of how Priority and Supporting Standards can be grouped to facilitate cohesive instruction and promote efficient use of instructional time. The bundled instructional resources and activities are designed to help, not restrict, teachers in making connections between standards.
