Setting up a new printer does not have to be difficult. With the right steps, Canon Printer Setup can be completed for wireless printing from a computer, smartphone, or other compatible device. Although the exact menus and buttons vary between Canon printer models, the general setup process is similar.

Prepare Your Canon Printer

Before starting the setup, place the printer near a power outlet and, if possible, close to your wireless router. Remove the printer from its packaging and take off any protective tape or packing materials.

Make sure the password is entered correctly because wireless passwords are case-sensitive. After entering the required information, allow the printer a moment to establish the connection.

Canon Printer Setup on a Computer

After connecting the printer to WiFi, install the appropriate Canon software and drivers for your specific model. Canon provides a Software & Drivers section where users can find files based on their printer model.

On Windows, follow the setup program's instructions and select the wireless connection option when prompted. After installation, you can check Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners to confirm that the Canon printer has been added.

For Mac users, open System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select the option to add a printer, scanner, or fax, and look for the connected Canon printer. Compatible Canon models may also support Apple AirPrint for wireless printing.

Use Canon PRINT for Compatible Printers

If you prefer to complete setup from a smartphone, the Canon PRINT app is available for compatible Canon printers and supported iOS and Android devices. Canon states that the app can provide printing and other functions, including setup on supported models.

Follow the instructions shown in the app to select your printer and connect it to the wireless network. Keep the smartphone close to the printer during setup.

Troubleshooting Canon WiFi Setup

If your Canon printer cannot find your wireless network, first check whether other devices can see the same WiFi network. Make sure the router is operating normally and consider moving the printer closer to the router during setup.

If the printer connects to WiFi but does not print, confirm that the computer and printer are connected to the same network. Restarting the printer and router can also help resolve temporary connection problems.

For a changed WiFi password or a new router, the printer may need to be connected to the wireless network again using its WiFi setup options.

Complete and Test the Setup

Once Canon Printer Setup is complete, print a test document from your computer or mobile device. If your Canon model includes scanning functionality, you can also perform a test scan.
