Hello everyone. Throughout this piece and research, you will see the trend of owing yourself to an obligation you have to fulfill. This is about doing our part as American citizens and helping our children in the education system. We all have many different duties as citizens and humans, but there is currently an oversight on the educational system and its failure to the children. Yes, not everyone has a child, but everyone is in this country and we must think of our future because it relies heavily on the upcoming of our American children. While reading "Big Questions" first, you will see the battle of what I think my obligations are and then it is narrowed down and researched later about the education of children. Some strengths I hope and believe you will see during this piece are my passion, willingness, and dedication to the research conducted.
My passion was driven by my six year old son. When I think about what matters most to me about him, I think of his education and if he is receiving an adequate amount to succeed. Success and achievement are what is needed for children to have a chance of a great future, which gives us hope. One day he and his peers will be in charge of what is going on in the world. Out of all the children, some will be in the fields that keep America going. However, how can we expect or look forward to a better future before starting at the root of the problem which is lack of proper schooling.
Throughout this experience, I learned an abundant amount of information in regard to the American school education system. I thought I knew it all and that I was correct, but by doing this research, it helped me see a different perspective of what I thought the only problem is. In my annotated bibliography, I chose to include pieces that gave me reasons to believe that there are many other problems in the education system other than what I believe. I also choose a source that gave information of how to solve the school’s many problems, with funding being the main one. While interviewing my sources, I learned from an educator’s perspective and from a parent’s. Everyone has different opinions, but their insight was refreshing and eye opening.
As you read along, I hope you take away the information I gathered and collected, then reviewed. Please use this research to further educate yourselves and others of the topic and think of ways we can help solve the problems with the current education system. Whether it is from the research presented, or your own ideas, school is something that there should always be a discussion about; it is a topic where there is always room for improvement. I hope you feel empowered to make a change and stand up for our children, who do not have a voice of their own, and make what you think are the right decisions.
Thank you,
Princilla Suarez
