Prince Albert Ski League Levels

Prince Albert Ski League continues to offer Alpine Learn to Ski as well as Freestyle Ski. Freestyle Skiing offers three branches of training; FUNAMENTALZ, FREESTYLERZ, and COMPETITIVE DEVELOPMENT.  The fundamental aim of the PASL is to engage children through on-hill programs to develop ski fundamentals, self-confidence, social connections, and the health benefits derived from an active lifestyle.

Learn To Ski

For all new members of the ski club, regardless of their skill level, this program is designed for absolute beginners who have little to no experience on the ski hill. We offer three to four super-basic lessons to get kids started. We encourage the presence of a capable parent or guardian during these lessons to provide physical support when needed. The lessons will cover essential skills such as using the tow rope, basic stopping and starting techniques, and snowplowing. Once our coaches believe your child is ready, they'll be integrated into our scheduled Monday lessons, and you'll receive an email with further information. Our goal is to ensure that new athletes feel comfortable navigating the hill. These introductory lessons are generously offered by our dedicated volunteer coaches, aiming to fast-track the learning process, so kids can start skiing confidently right from the beginning. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to parents and guardians for their invaluable assistance.

FUNdamentalz (Level 1 & 2 )    (AGES: 6 Plus)

FUNdamentalz - Monday Evenings

FUNdamentalz  - Tuesday Evenings (Must have a sibling in Tuesday Evening FREESTYLERZ)

This is a grass roots entry level program for young athletes to learn the basics of Freestyle Skiing in a fun and safe environment. This is also where your athlete will encounter other athletes with the same interests as they start this fun and exciting sport. They will build friendships that will last a lifetime.

The Goal of the FUNdamentalz Program is for the young athlete to learn all the Basic Freestyle Skiing skills. The athlete will learn jumping skills and simple tricks like grabs, twisters, spreads, 180s, 360s, etc. They will work in the terrain park to learn terrain park etiquette, how to navigate and make route selection in the park according to personal abilities, and how to approach a box and a rail. In the moguls, the athletes will learn how to pick a good line, how to effectively absorb the bumps and how to control their speed. When an athlete graduates from this program, they will be ready to enroll in the Freestylerz Program, the next stage in the Freestyle Progression.

Athletes that wish to compete can do so at the club competition level.

Freestylerz Level 3 & 4 (AGES: 8 Plus)

FREESTYLERZ PLUS - Tuesday Evenings with an opportunity to ski Monday nights as well.

Athletes will further develop mogul skills (carve their skis, control speed and safely hit the jumps), learn more advanced air skills (i.e., switch take off, speed control, grabs, 360 spins), and continue work in the terrain park (route selection, approach and exit).

Opportunities to participate in dryland opportunities such as water ramps, air bag, trampoline, and strength training on off days and in the summer months.

Athletes that wish to compete can do so at the club competition level, some athletes can also start competing at the provincial level (this is solely based on coaches evaluation).

Competitive Level 5 & 6 (AGES:12 Plus)

Train to Compete Team:

The Competitive Team aims at providing competitive athletes with more formal training opportunities to best prepare them for competition and excel at a provincial level. It will require athletes to train and/or compete outside of their home hill. In addition to on-snow training, the Competitive Team includes pre-season dryland training and opportunities to further prepare the athletes for the upcoming season in the competitive field.

*Coach discretion may qualify an athlete that is too young or disqualify an applicant who meets the minimum age criteria.

Athletes that wish to compete can do so at club competition or provincial level.
