Preview Renderer Lab, the publisher listed on the Chrome Web Store (an individual developer; hereinafter, the "Operator"), establishes this Privacy Policy regarding the handling of user information in the Chrome extension "Preview Renderer for Drive" (hereinafter, the "Extension").
1. Purpose of the Extension
The Extension's primary purpose is to display a Markdown or HTML file currently shown in Google Drive as a read-only, static preview with active behavior restricted.
The permissions obtained and information processed by the Extension are limited to what is necessary to provide this purpose and user-facing features directly related to it.
2. Information Processed by the Extension
To generate a preview, the Extension temporarily processes, within the user's browser, the contents of a Markdown or HTML file that Google Drive has displayed on the current page.
The information processed may include:
- The contents of the file currently being displayed
- Source-location information needed to generate the preview
- Diagnostic information needed to apply display restrictions or generate the preview
- Other information necessary to generate the current preview
This information is processed solely to provide the Extension's preview features.
3. Information Not Persistently Stored
The Extension does not persistently store the following as settings or history:
- File contents stored in Google Drive
- File names
- Google Drive URLs
- File IDs
- Viewing history
- Details of display-restriction diagnostics
- Source text or excerpts from it
- Complete URLs of external images
- A history of selected external-image hosts
- A separate history maintained by the Extension of permissions granted for external hosts
Preview data, diagnostic information, and source-location information may be held temporarily in browser memory only to the extent required for the current view. This temporary information is discarded when the user switches files, reloads the page, closes the preview, or another session-ending condition occurs.
4. Display Preferences Stored by the Extension
The Extension stores the following display preferences selected by the user in the extension storage provided by Chrome:
- Display language
- Theme
- Text size
- Preview page width
- Initial view when a file is opened
- Whether to display inline SVG
- Whether to display Base64-embedded images
- Whether to use Google Fonts
- Whether to enable external-image features
These preferences may remain stored until the user resets them or removes the Extension.
The Extension does not transmit these preferences to a server operated by the Operator. Display preferences are stored in `chrome.storage.local` and are not synchronized between devices through Chrome Sync.
5. No Transmission to the Operator's Own Server
The Operator does not transmit, store, or analyze on any external server operated by the Operator the contents of Google Drive files displayed through the Extension.
The Extension also does not use file contents, viewing history, or diagnostic details for any of the following purposes:
- Advertising
- User tracking
- User profiling
- Credit or lending decisions
- Sale of data
- Any other purpose unrelated to the Extension's user-facing features
6. Google Fonts
Only when the user enables Google Fonts in the settings does the Extension's Service Worker connect to the following fixed Google hosts required to provide Google Fonts:
- `fonts.googleapis.com`
- `fonts.gstatic.com`
Through this communication, the following information may be disclosed to the destination service:
- The user's IP address
- The time of the connection
- The URL related to the requested font and other information required for HTTP communication
When Google Fonts is disabled, the Extension does not load Google Fonts for this purpose. Google's handling of information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the applicable terms of service.
7. External Images
The Extension does not automatically load external images referenced in HTML.
An external image is retrieved only when all of the following conditions are met:
1. The user enables the external-image feature.
2. The user selects an external host to allow for the current preview.
3. If Chrome displays a request for additional access, the user completes that confirmation.
When these conditions are met, the Extension's Service Worker retrieves the image from the selected host.
Through this communication, the following information may be disclosed to the selected external host:
- The user's IP address
- The time of the connection
- The URL of the image being retrieved
- Other information required for the HTTP request used to retrieve the image
The Extension does not maintain its own persistent history of selected hosts, complete image URLs, or granted permissions. Within the Extension, the selected-host state is used only to the extent necessary for the current preview.
The management, display, or retention of host permissions granted by the user through Chrome is governed by Chrome's permission-management features and the user's browser settings.
8. Information Handled Through the Contact Form
The Operator handles information submitted through the contact form only when a user sends an inquiry and only to the extent necessary to respond to it.
The contact form may handle the following information:
- Inquiry category
- The Extension version, target file type, operating environment, issue encountered, reproduction steps, and expected result entered by the user in the inquiry description
- An email address voluntarily entered by the user when a reply is requested
- The submission date and time added to the response by Google Forms
- Other information voluntarily entered by the user in the inquiry description
The Operator does not use Google Forms' automatic email-address collection feature. Only users who want an individual reply may voluntarily enter a reply email address in the dedicated field. A reply email address may constitute personal information.
As a general rule, the contact form does not request the following information:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Company name or affiliation
- Date of birth
- File attachments
- Google Drive URLs
- File IDs
- File names
- File contents
- HTML or Markdown source code
- Passwords, tokens, or other authentication information
Except for the dedicated reply email-address field, users should not enter personal information that is unnecessary for handling the inquiry. Users should also not enter confidential information, authentication information, Google Drive URLs, file IDs, file names, file contents, or source code in the inquiry description.
If the Operator replies by email using Microsoft Outlook, the inquiry details and reply email address may be processed by Microsoft to the extent necessary to send and manage the reply.
9. Purposes for Using Contact Information
Information received through the contact form is used only to the extent necessary for the following purposes:

11. Disclosure to Third Parties and Processing by Service Providers
The Operator does not disclose personal data obtained through inquiries or other means to a third party without the user's consent, except where permitted by applicable law.
This restriction does not apply in the following circumstances:
- The user has consented to the disclosure.
- The disclosure is required by law.
- The disclosure is necessary to protect a person's life, health, or property, and obtaining the user's consent is difficult.
- The disclosure is otherwise permitted under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan or other applicable laws.
Google Forms, Google Sheets, Microsoft Outlook, and other external service providers described in this Policy may process information to the extent necessary to provide their respective services.
Where such processing constitutes the entrustment of personal-data handling under applicable law, the Operator will take necessary and appropriate measures to ensure that the service provider handles the personal data securely.
IP addresses, URLs, and other information transmitted directly from the user's browser to a destination when Google Fonts or external images are retrieved are described in Sections 6 and 7.
12. Retention Period
Contact information is retained only for the period necessary to respond to the inquiry, conduct any related defect investigation, or fulfill another purpose described in Section 9.
As a general rule, the Operator deletes contact information within 12 months after the date on which the inquiry is resolved.
For an unresolved inquiry, the Operator reviews whether continued retention is necessary when 24 months have elapsed since receipt and deletes information that is no longer needed for a response or investigation.
Information may be retained for a longer period to the extent necessary in the following circumstances:
- Retention is required by law.
- Retention is necessary to address a dispute or claim.
- Retention is necessary to investigate a security issue or misuse.
- Another legitimate reason requires retention for a certain period.
If Google Forms responses are linked to Google Sheets, the Operator checks at the time of deletion that the relevant information does not remain in either Google Forms or the linked Google Sheets. If the Operator has replied through Microsoft Outlook, the Operator also checks that unnecessary personal information does not remain in sent or related email messages.
The Extension's display preferences are retained for the period described in Section 4.
13. Security Measures
The Operator takes reasonable security measures appropriate to the nature and scale of the information handled to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, alteration, and other incidents.
The principal measures include:
- Limiting access to the contact form and its responses to the Operator.
- Not making Google Forms or Google Sheets used to store inquiry responses publicly accessible.
- Enabling two-factor authentication for the Google and Microsoft accounts used for operations.
- Not granting unnecessary editing permissions to third parties.
- Not retaining contact information beyond the necessary period.
- Reviewing the privacy impact when changing the Extension's implementation, permissions, or external communication destinations.
The Operator may refrain from disclosing detailed security measures where disclosure would be inappropriate for security reasons.
14. User Requests
To the extent provided by applicable law, a user may make the following requests regarding personal information about the user held by the Operator:
- Notification of the purposes of use
- Disclosure of retained personal data
- Correction
- Addition
- Deletion
- Suspension of use
- Erasure
- Suspension of disclosure to third parties
- Disclosure of records concerning disclosures to third parties
- Other requests permitted under applicable law
Requests should be submitted through the contact form identified in this Policy.
To identify the relevant information and prevent fraudulent requests by third parties, the Operator may ask the user to confirm information such as:
- The approximate date of submission
- The inquiry category
- The content of the inquiry
- The email address provided for a reply
- Other minimum information necessary to verify the user's identity or identify the relevant information
Even where additional information is required for verification, the Operator will not request more information than necessary. The Operator may decline all or part of a request where permitted by applicable law.
15. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The Extension's collection, use, processing, and transmission of user data are limited to what is necessary to provide or improve its disclosed single purpose and user-facing features directly related to that purpose.
The Extension's use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
The Extension does not use, disclose, or sell user data for any of the following purposes:
- Personalized advertising

- Any other purpose prohibited by the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The Operator does not obtain the contents of Google Drive files processed by the Extension for human review.
