Preview Renderer for Drive lets you configure the appearance of previews and control how images and external resources are handled.
Open the Chrome Extensions menu, find Preview Renderer for Drive, and select “Options.”
The exact menu location may vary depending on your Chrome version and whether the extension icon is pinned to the toolbar.
Choose the color theme used by the preview.
Select the theme that is easiest to read in your environment.
Choose the text size used in the preview.
This setting affects only the preview and does not modify the original file stored in Google Drive.
Choose the maximum width used for the preview content.
Maximum 720px
Maximum 960px
Maximum 1200px
Maximum 1440px
A narrower width is generally suitable for text-focused documents. A wider width may be more appropriate for documents containing tables or wide layouts.
When the available screen is narrower than the selected value, the preview adjusts to fit the available space.
Choose which view is used first when a supported file is opened in Google Drive.
Show Preview
Use the standard Drive view
When “Use the standard Drive view” is selected, you can still switch to Preview when needed.
Choose whether to display SVG content written directly inside an HTML file.
Enable this setting when you need to view diagrams, icons, or charts created with inline SVG.
For files from an unknown source, enable it only when needed.
Choose whether to display images embedded directly inside an HTML file as Base64 data.
Base64-embedded images use data contained in the file rather than retrieving the image from an external website.
Large embedded images may increase the time required to display the preview.
Choose whether HTML files may load Google Fonts.
When enabled, fonts are loaded only from the designated Google hosts. Use this setting when you want text to appear closer to the design intended by the original HTML.
Choose whether HTML files may retrieve images hosted on external websites.
External images are never loaded automatically. To load them:
Enable the external images feature.
Review the hosts used by the current preview.
Select the hosts you trust.
Complete any additional Chrome permission request.
Do not allow a host unless you recognize and trust it.
When external images are allowed, the browser communicates with the image provider. Information normally associated with a web request, such as the user's IP address, may be sent to that provider.
The following content cannot be enabled from the Options page:
JavaScript
Automatically executed behavior
Iframes
Form submission
Interactive input fields
Automatic redirects
Unapproved external resource loading
These items remain restricted because the extension provides a static preview.
Changes to settings are saved automatically.
To avoid unexpectedly changing a preview that is currently being viewed, updated settings may be applied the next time you open a file or display the preview again.
Settings are stored in chrome.storage.local and are not synchronized through Chrome Sync.
Start with the default settings. Enable additional items only when content you need is not being displayed.
Before enabling external images or Google Fonts, confirm what will be loaded and where the connection will be made.
