Essential oils are concentrated liquids taken directly from the roots, bark, leaves, stems, flowers, or other part of a plant. Most essential oils are distilled from a plant using steam or water.
The oil carries a distinctive scent (also called “essence”) of the plant. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy, which is a centuries-old practice of using natural essences to promote mental and physical well-being.
Essential oils vary in price, and are typically more expensive than fragrance notes, but well worth the additional cost for the aroma and psychological benefits they bring to the field of perfumery. These benefits of essential oils must be weighed against environmental issues.
For example, the harvesting of sandalwood, vanilla, and patchouli have negative impacts on the land.
Fragrance notes are a blend of essential oils and aromachemicals, which are synthetic aromatic materials.
These notes are created in a lab. They can start as naturals and have their chemical structure modified, or they can be created uniquely through the magic of science.
Molecules can replicate what you might find in a natural ingredient (for example, vanillin can be created synthetically, thus saving the environment from unsustainable vanilla harvesting).
With synthetic fragrance notes, you have available to you an expansive library of fragrances that you cannot find in natural perfumery, include apple, chocolate, or fresh cut grass.
However, these do not carry the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils. And they can contain dangerous ingredients, too, like phthalates (our fragrance notes are phthalate-free).
Absolutely not! None of our items contain animal products nor are they tested on animals.
You absolutely can wear essential oils as perfume and be creative with it. Once you find your favorite essential oils, you can personalize your perfume to your liking or mood. It is a great and easy way to incorporate essential oils into your daily routine.
Keep in mind EVERY person's skin is different and PGFB is NOT responsible for any adverse reactions to the oils, perfumes, or fragrance scents when applied. Just as with other perfumes, some are alcohol based, some are oil based and can react differently to different skin types. We do not recommend eating or ingesting any of our products or getting into your eyes.
What you can do is create a scent inspired by your favorite fragrance.
How? By focusing on the main notes.
In this article, we'll guide you through the process of cloning your favorite perfume or cologne using Fragrantica, a comprehensive database of commercial and indie fragrances.
Steps to Clone Your Favorite Perfume or Cologne
We'll go into depth in the steps below, but the general process for cloning a perfume is:
Find your Fragrance on Fragrantica
Identify the Main Notes
Gather Essential Oils and Perfume Ingredients
Experiment with Blending
Let Your Fragrance Mature
Begin by navigating to the Fragrantica website and searching for your chosen fragrance.
For this example, we'll use Vetiver Creed, a scent that showcases the exquisite vetiver essential oil, which is our store’s namesake.
(And as such, we sell the best vetiver we can find. This hydrodiffused vetiver is truly exceptional, surpassing other vetivers on the market, including synthetic versions.)
Currently PGFB does not have a physical location for fragrance parties, but we are in talks and creating a trailer for mobile events and festivals. Our goal is to attain a multi use venue with special surprises to come.
Though not much scientific research has been done to prove it, we can attest to the fact that different skin types react differently to same fragrances, creating a diverse array of scents from a single combination. It’s almost like an individual’s interpretation to a musical composition. If you are at a loss, our stylists can suggest some good combinations or recipes that we love. CREATE THE MUSIC NOTES OF SCENT THAT SOOTH YOUR SOUL.

Amber - Founder
Hello, I created Pretty Girl Fragrance Bar in honor of my daughter Karly Rain who was taken way too soon. Her love of perfume and essential oils was on another level. She ALWAYS smelled amazing and collected perfumes and bottles. She planned to open her own beauty store and had a knack for style. We plan to honor her in many ways and this fragrance experience in self expression is just the beginning.
She was unique, independent and encouraged others to embrace their unique selves!
I hope you enjoy your very own Scentsory Scentsation in Fragrance Artistry.
