Main Building

The Main Building, as it is called now, is the oldest among the currently existing academic buildings of Presidency University. Many departments have come and gone from its classrooms with high-ceilings, and many generations have reminisced their experiences in the age-old, long benches. The Main Building currently houses the administrative section of the University, as well as the departments of English, History, Geography and Performing Arts. The Performing Arts Department is among the youngest in the institution as well as the building, located in what used to be, until recently, the rooms of the English Department. A stunning blend of the historical and the modern, this building, perhaps more than any other at Presidency University, speaks of the waves of change this institution has seen through the ages. The main staircase, the steps of which have been walked on by greats like Jagadish Chandra Bose, Prafulla Chandra Ray, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and many more, today shares space with a Dance Studio, a black box theatre and the Presidency Museum. It is no wonder, given the age of this building, that we find the greatest number of statues and plaques in its halls and corridors.

The statues and plaques in the main building have been categorized in this archive into three categories according to their location:
