well just figured out that I can select the transition and "copy" and then select another transition and the "paste". Not perfect but had a feeling if I banged my head against the wall long enough, I'd figure something out.

As you've noted, there are a number of the included transistions that can't be modified then saved as presets. Of course, if you're just using them with the standard settings, you can quickly right-click on a preset in the Effects panel, Set as Default. The using the keyboard shorts for applying default transition it's very quick to apply to one or more selected clips.

To modify other transitions and save, you need to save a short sequence where they're applied and set as you wish say on a pair of synthetic media clips (project panel, new item menu, color bars, Adjustment layer, black or transparent video). It's handy to have a project with say your transitions applied to several sequences of clips this way, and drag/drop them from that sequence to the timeline you're working on.

The new Productions feature actually makes this very easy to do. Have a subfolder for transitions, within it create a project file with several sequences of synthetic clips with different transitions applied and modified to taste. Then just open that project file, drag the transition to your current working sequence.

Unless I'm missing something (which is always possible if not likely) your way doesn't seem any better than the copy/paste solution that I discovered, both require a "template" sequence to store the customized transitions. And yeah, I have customized them. What's interesting is my solution seems to be an accident in programming (or minimally not completely thought out), cause when you control click on the transition you wish to copy, there's no option to copy and when you control click on the transition you wish to paste to, there's no option to paste... When I was trying to figure out a way to accomplish this, it didn't initally occur to me try the copy and paste because the options were not available in the contextual menu. Of course I'm not a programmer and may be missing the constraints that prevent this from happening.

So I generally just use the push transition and I like it but I like to adjust the timing of it. In a transition heavy clip this can take forever. Is there anyway to edit the properties of a transition and have it save universally?

I've taken up a new hobby to learn Adobe Premiere Pro during the summer. I'm currently trying to add some preset transitions for my clips. I want to make a zoom in effect. When i add the effect to my clip it zooms in but at the same time cuts the clip into 4 identical parts. I can't figure out how to fix it, anyone with a quick tip would be appreciated!

I'm trying to create custom drag-and-drop transition that I can easily put between two clips, without use of adjustment layer. This video below is a left whip transition I created manually with two clips overlapping over each other, and a "transform" position effect on each. The "before" clip slides to the left, and the "after" clip slides to the left too, but is on top. They also have shutter angle keyframes.

Basically I'm trying to save this transition as an actual transition that I can easily drag and drop between two clips for convenience. For example when I have to re-order some clips on the timeline.

A transition is an effect added between pieces of media to create an animated link between them. Transitions are used to move a scene from one shot to the next. Premiere Pro provides a list of transitions that you can apply to a sequence. A transition can be a subtle crossfade or a stylized effect.

By default, placing one clip next to another in a Timeline panel results in a cut, where the last frame of one clip is followed by the first frame of the next. Transitions are usually placed on a cut line between shots. You can also apply a transition only to the beginning or end of a clip.

In a Timeline panel or the Effect Controls panel, a double-sided transition has a dark diagonal line through it, while a single-sided transition is split diagonally with one half dark and one half light.

You can set a video transition and an audio transition as default transitions. Cross Dissolve and Constant Power Crossfade are preset as the video and audio default transitions. A blue outline marks default transition icon in the Effects panel.

If you want to apply the default transition to most or all the clips in a sequence, consider using the Automate To Sequence command. Automate To Sequence places the default video and audio transition between all the clips it adds. For more information, see Add clips to a sequence automatically.

You can apply the default video and audiotransitions to any selection of two or more clips. The default transitionsare applied to every edit point where two selected clips touch. The placement does not depend upon the position of the current-timeindicator or on whether the clips lie on targeted tracks. The default transitionsare not applied where a selected clip touches a non-selected clipor no clip at all.
