Statically indeterminate problems under bending loading conditions. Unsymmetrical bending problems, curved bars, Castigliano's theorem, and its applications. Laterally and axially loaded beams. Deflection of beams. Theory of plates and shells. Introduction to the theory of elasticity and photoelasticity.

Having completed the responsibilities of grading tutorial assignments in a timely and consistent manner, constructive feedback was provided to students. Accurate and detailed solutions were prepared for quizzes and the final exam. Academic integrity was upheld through the invigilation of quizzes and the final exam, ensuring fair and objective grading. Effective communication with students was facilitated by distributing graded assignments and answer keys, as well as conducting doubt-clearing sessions.Student Support:
Successfully providing additional academic support involved organizing dedicated TA help sessions, addressing student queries, and explaining complex concepts. These efforts ensured that students received the necessary guidance and clarity in their studies.
ME 201: Solid Mechanics
Autumn 2018, 2019*.
Course Content
Fundamentals of mechanics of deformable solids. Concepts of stress and strain and their relationships. Fatigue and thermal stresses, creep. Equilibrium equations, strain displacement relation. Combined stresses, Mohr's circle diagram for stress and strain rosettes. Simple beams, bending moments, shear forces, and stresses in beams. Torsion, energy methods. Theories of failure. Stresses in thin, thick cylinders and rotating discs.

Designing a Specialized* Assignment:
My involvement in this course was particularly rewarding, as I was entrusted with the rare opportunity to design problems that integrated theoretical and computational approaches. Utilizing Maple Software to analyze and solve these assignments analytically and later validating the solutions using Abaqus finite element software was an intellectually stimulating journey. This iterative process of problem design was both exciting and immensely educational. I am sincerely grateful to my mentor (Prof. Parag Tandaiya) for the opportunity to demonstrate the application of Maple software for analytical problem-solving, while his exemplary demonstration of utilizing Abaqus for mechanics problems to a class of around 120 students was genuinely enlightening. Designing and grading a unique assignment on functionally graded materials was solely my responsibility. Students thoroughly enjoyed this exercise, which spanned almost half the semester.Tutorial Preparation and Delivery:

Introduction to Cartesian tensors; Strains: Concept of strain, derivation of small strain tensor and compatibility; Stress: Derivation of Cauchy relations and equilibrium and symmetry equations, principal stresses and directions; Constitutive equations: Generalized Hooke’s law including thermoelasticity, Material symmetry; Boundary Value Problems: Definition of the BVP in linear elasticity including concepts of uniqueness and superposition; 2-d plane stress and plane strain problems, introduction to governing equations in cylindrical and spherical coordinates, axisymmetric problems (examples may include problems on curved beams, thermoelasticity, torsion of non-circular cross sections, contact problems in 2-d, problems on wedges and crack tip fields); 3-d problems by potential methods; Energy methods and problems.
