Automated Soap Making Machine
We worked in a group of 5 people to create an automated soap making machine as part of our final year project during undergrad. The machine was basically a water blanketed heat exchanger that melted soap ingredients and we incorporated temperature control and flow control using Arduino Uno. I was responsible for overall system conceptualization, the electronics and control system using Arduino Uno and the system integration. I used a load cell to calculate the weight of the melted content (which was poured into the mould) and then wrote a script to switch off the solenoid valve whenever the required amount of melted content was poured into the mould. The temperature control was achieved using a module which maintained the temperature within +/- 2 degree celsius and accordingly I wrote the script for switching on and off the heating rods. In the end, we were able to demonstrate the working of the complete system and able to make a soap from scratch.
