Volunteered as course marshal at The CIBC Run for the Cure held on 1st October 2023. I managed pedestrian traffic and supervised the intersection along the marathon course. I also pointed runners in the right direction and encouraged them on their way past. One of the most important aspects of my job was to ensure the safety of both the runners and the spectators. I had to be constantly aware of my surroundings and make quick decisions to keep everyone safe. I also had to be able to communicate effectively with the runners and the other course marshals. Volunteering as a course marshal was a truly rewarding experience. It was an opportunity to give back to the community and to be part of something special.
During my volunteering opportunity, at Varsity Game Day Crew, I Volunteered as a Ball Boy and at the Information desk. While I was at the information desk, I had to communicate with fans and inform them which team was playing against Durham Lords, I also had to distribute the match schedule and team list. I really enjoyed working at the Information desk, as it helped me improve my communication skills and customer service. I connected with different kinds of soccer fans and got to learn more about soccer. The atmosphere of the game was incredible. I also volunteered as a Ball Boy during the soccer game, my role was to supply the ball when a soccer ball went out of the play. I always had to be alert during the game, interact with players, and understand some game rules.
