This is a prototype that I developed at IIT Delhi during summer bootcamp for which I was awarded as Change maker 2025. There is not a single stereomicroscope in my city, so where to see how micro plastics look ? In search of that I found that micro plastics lab at IIT Delhi has it. I applied for summer boot camp and I was the only high schooler selected from my city.
Problem- Bottled water contains twice as many microplastic particles as tap water (WHO2019) leading to autoimmune diseases, hormonal disablements, cancer and infertility. The average number of microplastics found in bottled drinking water is 94.37gm/ liter / m3.The size of microplastics is from 5mm - 1 micron meter.
Solution- Me and my team Microplastics developed an ecofriendly and sustainable filter which separates microplastics from water. During this innovation we faced multiple problems like identification and separation of microplastics in water. We did lots of research on current systems of water purifications, where we found the current water purifiers mostly use plastic membranes to filter water which again leads to release of microplastics in water. So we decided to develop a prototype using ecofriendly and sustainable materials. We used muslin cloth and a granular activated charcoal (GAC) and we could filter out microplastics from the water.
Impact - We observed that when bottled water passed through Bio Filter it separated microplastics which were attached to GAC- Granular activated charcoal, and clear water came out.
Avishkar - The Innovation 2025
Poornam Eco vision Foundation which works in creating awareness about plastic and e Waste management. I work as volunteer with them.
Avishkar - The Innovation is platform for eco friendly creativity and innovation. Every small, large, individual or collective effort is important for environmental conservation.
India Science Festival - 2024
Ferguson college college Pune every year conducts extra ordinary celebration of science and innovation. The event is mixture of students, researchers, scientists and general public featuring interactive workshops, immersive exhibits, panel discussions, fireside chats, debates, book talks and much more.
I had privilege to meet Dr Sedat Gündoğdu PhD Professor at cukurova university his talk was on "How prevent plastic pollution : The importance of upstream solutions". Dr Lav Varshney from university of Illinois deliverd an engaging session " Monkey see, AI do: learning intelligence natural way." Prof Sujata Ramdeorai fom the university of British Columbia took us on fascinating journey with " Maths Everywhere:From equations to images " , " Unsolved problems in Physics in 21st century," while Dr Nayana Shah from Washington university and Dr Debdatta Paul from from ICIS also shared their cutting edge research.
The festival was filled with curiosity in action ,deep joy of learning and scientific exploration. The experience was made even more special by the chance to engage in discussion with scientists on different topics like robotics, sustainable developement, physics, plastic pollution and artificial intelligence.
Science Fest 2024 - Beating plastic pollution for sustainable future from waste to energy.
Every year Surajaya Sarvangin Vikas Prakalp NGO organises Science Fest, where the scientific research and creativity of underprivileged students from different slums across Pune city were displayed.
I got responsibility of 10 students from grade 9 from Burma Shell slum area, to guide them and develop a 3D model of Plastic recycling unit in to gas and fuel.
Science Exhibition at School 6 th grade - 2019
The most precious moment , I was sprouting as a researcher. The first step when I learned how to make 3D model. We made Air cooler and showcased different types of Air coolers. I still remember the day I learned about Japanese fan and made one of waste paper.
